This is a little embarrassing, but you're right.

Going to add a cancel cast to my starsurge now.

I always just strafe the smallest amount to cancel my cast. Call me lazy.

Lag, reaction time and other unavoidable delays conspire to make canceling a spell barely worth bothering anyway. Try canceling a 1.5s cast some day.

Especially when you're currently on a pause and accidentally cast on a trash group or a boss.
