Computer Build For Friend (~$1000) *Need Help*

Hey, creating a build for my friend. The things he would like to do with this computer is:

    1) WoW: Ultra
    2) WoW Live Streaming - Twitch
    3) WoW Frapsing
    4) Movie Editing
    5) Surfing the net

He is not to interested in other video games other than WoW, possibly branch out and play other Blizzard games, but that's about it.

(Note: Already has Computer Case + HD)

    CPU: $219.99 Intel i5-3570K Quad-Core Socket LGA1155, 3.4Ghz (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=045425)
    Cooler: $89.99 Antec - KUHLER H20 920 Liquid Cooling (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=035530)
    Motherboard: $159.88 Asus - Maximus IV Extreme-Z Z68 Chipset (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=039834)
    PSU: $144.99 Corsair Professional Series Hx850 850w (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=053095)
GPU: $279.99 Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=051660)
    RAM: $64.99 Corsair Vengeance Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL7 DIMMs (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=044829)
    SSD: $109.99 OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SATA3 (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=037112)

    Total Without Taxes: $1059.82

If anyone has any suggestions on better products at cheaper prices, etc, or want to converse about said build, and have any input on the matter, please feel free to leave a comment. I would greatly appreciate it, as this is a lot of money to be spending and no one wants to said money improperly. With the research I have done so far, this is what I came up with as best solution.

    *Edit: Changed i5 - 2500k to i5 - 3570k

Well, with that you wont be able to go full ultra and streaming 720p at the same time. Tested. A combination of good/high for that. (That is ofcourse in 25 man to have atleast 40+fps)

  3. #3
He mostly does High Ranked Arena, 2400+ Bracket, etc. He is willing to do WoW: Medium - High for streaming, videos, etc. He just wants to be able to play WoW on Ultra and maintain 60 FPS in most areas, while not streaming. Thank you for your input though Ninjaxl

I would go with a different Mobo like a gigabyte UD3H http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128544 save you about 20 bucks
I would get a different cpu cooler you don't really need liquid on a I5 playing wow http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103099 evo 212 save you about 40 bucks
I would get a different PSU something like a corsair 650 and save yourself about 20-30 bucks
Get the LP vengeance corsair ram
    Get the vertext 4 ssd
And now you should be able to either 1. upgrade your Video card or 2. get an I7. 3. if he is doing a lot of frapsing he might want to get another HHD for extra storage fraps runs a 128 gig SSD out pretty quick same with the HDD depending on the size of it.

that advice and go a for i7-3770k , should make the streaming better and the 660Ti is a card plenty powerfull and very suited for blizzard games due to engine build.

The Asus Maximus IV Extreme Z is a $400+ Mobo, being sold at $159.88. Is the gigabyte at all better? I just wouldn't think so as they are in completely different price ranges, but I'm no master at this kind of thing.

Can anyone tell me the major differences between the CL9 ram and the CL7, I presumed that the faster timings would be beneficial and that the difference would be worth the extra $7. Considering I use the CPU water cooler, allowing the heightened ram sticks.

I will take your advice and get the $119.99 Corsair Professional Series Modular HX650 80PLUS Certified 650W PSU (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=053170) as he doesn't need a 850W PSU. Reducing the total by exactly $25.

The Read speed of the V4 is 560 where as the V3 is 550, while the V3 Write speed is 500 compared to the 430 of the V4. Is it really worth the extra $40 for the 10 MB/S Read speed?

I'll also take your advice on this product as well, while I do like the water cooling, as I have it on my PC and it keeps everything bellow 29 degrees Celsius which I adore, but I am very biased. Reducing the price by exactly $55.

$34.99 Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Direct Heat Pipe CPU Cooler R2, Intel (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=044952)

Overall: $100 in savings that can be spent on a new CPU.

The build I just linked you has everything you're asking for and ~$940, granted total might differ slightly if you choose to just buy from one site.

While I really do wish he and or I could buy things online, this is not the case sadly. While your information is superb, I can't use your discounted prices I will try and see what I can find at Canada Computers / Tiger Direct in regards to your selection.

I don't know how much SSD's are in Canada but the SSD's I recommend are the OCZ vertex 4, Crucial M4, the Samsung 830, and the Intel 520 get which ever one is on sell. As for the vertex it has had a few updates and the read/write speed is different now. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6074/o...4-review-128gb

Edit: I see that is already in the postings that you have. Anyways I have a Vertex 4 and my wife has the M4 both have been great and have not failed. Out of the two the Vertex has about a 2 second start up time advantage and about a 1 sec load screen advantage it wouldn't be worth 10 bucks to get the vertex but if it is on sale and is the same price as the M4 get the Vertex believe me.

Can't find Xigmatek at either Retail stores, so that will be a no go sadly

Should I still go with the $34.99 Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Direct Heat Pipe CPU Cooler R2, Intel (http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=044952)?

Out of those 4, unless you can find others within those sites that are better, what is the best? Thank you for your advice on everything so far.

With regards to the SSD: The OCZ V3 has faster Read and Write speeds at a cheaper price, is there any reason the M4 is better than the OCZ that isn't noticeable upon first inspection?

Is it worth that extra $50 for the overclock? Sadly both are over the price set by DirectCanada.

If my friend wanted to overclock a little bit, would he be able to with this PSU?

That's the compiled list with retail prices, etc. Thank you for everything hopefully you can answer some of my questions.

CPUHS - Yes Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is fine.

RAM - Just look for 1600MHz, CAS 9, low profile. Maybe you could just get 8GB (2x4) and add more later if you need?

SSD - Don't worry about the different speeds on those, only place you'll really notice a difference is in benchmarks. Reason for the Crucial M4/Samsung 830 is it's proven to be very reliable and usually decently priced.

GPU - Get the cheapest of the two

PSU - Yes enough power even in an overclocked system, no problem.

Thanks so much Notarget, we finalised the build and he's happy with it. Couldn't have got it done so cheap without you
