Hey guys, I was just looking for some advice since I'm about to go out and buy this monitor (139 in store):

Now the specifications say VGA only (which I find hard to believe).
I'm not sure if it comes with the proper DVI cables, apparently it only comes with a VGA cable, which is dumb, so would I be able to use the one I am using now on my older 2007 monitor with this new monitor? I have a DVI-I single link cable.

Or would I have to drop 40 dollars for a DVI-??? cable at the store as well?
I'm unsure about the connections here, what should seem pretty simple is rather complicated now that I am reading into different DVI variations. The screenshot showing the back of the monitor shows either a DVI-I Dual Link or a DVI-D.
I spent a little while this morning looking into the facts and ended up throwing my hands up in the air (literally) and made some funny Zoidberg noises.

What is your total budget for a monitor including tax?
Also, I'm not seeing "vga only" anywhere, for output I see "VGA; DVI" though I do see the In the box VGA Cable, and I would recommend DVI over that.
I have a Samsung 22 inch LCD that I'm happy with, I see that monitor particularly has only a 3 star review rating though.

200 dollars. After reading into it more, apparently I should just buy a DVI-D cable since apparently they can go into DVI-I sockets on video cards, etc.
So what... DVI-D male to male? Or http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...10b3e26c85en02
Also, the newegg reviews are much better on it.

Why would you choose to spend money on an inferior monitor & cable? If your budget is 200 look at the monitor I posted and maybe consider quality over older technology.

Isn't there a new max resolution out for PC monitors? Is it worth buying a 1080p monitor these days?

Actually, I might not have to buy any cables now... after double checking my cords, it turns out I have a single link DVI-D cable... which means I should be fine, right?
I just wanted a 23in monitor with LED to be honest. It seems like an alright monitor for gaming anyway.I wouldn't advise getting that monitor just because it's less expensive, you're going to have to spend money on a DVI cable after anyways right?

1920 x 1080 seems to be the standard. I currently have a ACER X243W which I appearantly can't buy anywhere anymore, which is 1920x1200. I kind of expected this to be the 'standard' resolution for 24", but not many monitors are made with that resolution.
Even the new 27" I ordered (260$ or so on newegg), Asus VE278H is 1920x1080. The resolution after that is 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 but those cost above 500$ or so.
I would highly suggest to not go for the cheapest, I could probably get a 27" for 180-200$ or a 24" for 100-120$ but it's a lot worse than what I'm getting now. I usually have monitors for a couple of years, my second monitor is my Philips 170s, a crappy 17" with 15 ms refreshrate. But then again, it's almost 7 years old I think.
Long story short, spent a few more bucks to get something you can use for years.

I bought that one (2ms) for my sisters xmas gift. $119 after rebate with the black friday deal. Hooked it up, it had no dead pixels and looked better than my lg. Originally Posted by AhhSpiders

The one I have is an IPS panel and the 2ms one isnt. Not sure if you are interested in IPS panels but if not then the 2ms one is very very nice. Originally Posted by AhhSpiders
