in terms of government control, where the government has some sort of control (even over social issues like marriage), the scale is linear left to right. You are taking the term left and applying it to liberal. The words liberal and conservative aren't used on that scale. Though people like to superimpose those words over it.

Facism, Nazism and a monarchy (to some extent) are left.

FoxNews called them left. Which is correct. FoxNews did not call them liberal. Don't confuse that.

And right and left wing aren't defined solely by their stance on government control. There is a very good reason why we consider nazism far-right and anarchism far-left, unless I was constantly lied to throughout my education from primary school to university.

It can be a little confusing because the definitions have flipped in recent years and it really depends upon what you are talking about. Social issues always take a back seat when discussing government types though, which means anarchists are always far right on the spectrum. Social issues can make the waters more murky but this is really only valid towards the center of the spectrum where the differences are already murky. The classic spectrum goes Anarchist-Libertarian-Constitutionalist-Republican-Democrat-Socialist-Green-Facist-Communist by how much government control each wants(this includes social issues). This is reversed now that the terminology has changed(liberal used to be aligned with very Libertarian principles of little to no government and a heavy focus on property rights of individuals).

It can all be very confusing but technically, stances that are pro gay marriage and anti-drug war are right wing stances as well as liberal(modern and classical) ones. The terminology and rhetoric has just really muddied these terms and made them a nightmare to navigate.

You are using the social spectrum to measure left and right, not the political one. Even then, its social spectrum is really wonky and mixes terminology.

Someone is probably going to attack me about this but so be it. If you watch Fox's news programs the ones that are on in the morning during the week. They are really well balanced as far as democrat vrs republican and their moderators will ask questions of both to keep the discussion going. This is better than what I have seen on other news networks at the same time of day. Both get turned on in our break room at work. The difference is that they take shows like the O'Rieley Factor and call it news and use it to make these claims. Those shows are for entertainment just like Pierce Morgan's show is on the other network. Try watching some of their actual news and not the commentary shows that are in the evening and you will see the difference.

All this belief does is say that "because conservatives don't like it" (debatable) that race and racism won't exist as concepts in society if they choose not to acknowledge it while the rest of us do. (They shouldn't, but they do.) Which is denying reality, for their crafted feel good version of it, because race often comes into play with many things. This belief is nothing more than escapism and lying to yourself and choosing cowardice; because instead of actually working to remove these labels, you just pretend that the current ones don't exist altogether.

But at the same time, you can't force people to like each other. If you tell a racist that he has to be nice to minorities, he's only going to hate them more. It turns distrust in to resentment.

This whole debate could be resolved if you considered this:

So what? Does it say anything about any other left-wing person? No, it does not. It's only your prejudice that gets in the way and ever so slightly attribute this kind of crazy to left-wingers. For the non-critical thinkers out there, this will fly over their heads and appeal directly to their per-conceived prejudices.; and I imagine that those groups of people must be rather large if Fox News can still air things like this.

Either ignore and move on, or better; call them (Fox News) out for their sensationalist hyperbole.

I try to think like this: I want to get to know you, what your thoughts and ideas are about various political and what not issues. By doing this I try to suppress my prejudice and in turn get a broader knowledge overall; if I did opposite and just lump people into groups I would be ignorant & less knowledgeable.

I agree. Fox News is a mess and constantly hyping stupid shit. That said, they are the only news network that is willing to challenge authority as it appeals to their base and as a result is the network I watch/listen to if I am stuck in a situation where I need to choose between cable news channels. I don't even have tv but I listen to them on XM radio during my commute sometimes and although they often make me grumpy for stupid social issue crap they are the only ones that the vast overreaching of politicians in DC. Sure, it fits their Republican agenda, but challenging authority should be the #1 priority of all news outlets not just 1.

While they didn't challenge Bush until the end of his presidency(which I believe contributed to his abysmal end of term poll numbers) they were a very new station still wrapped up in 9-11 bullshit, so who knows, maybe they would be different under another president. If they follow the model talk radio has taken in the last 8 years, they would be very critical of all power(talk radio was far from friendly to Romney until very close to the election).

No they just dont report things that go against their agenda is what they do. If its not beneficial for libers they just ignore it so it seems like they are factual. Fox does some bad reporting but people on the other stations ignore things. I cant tell you how many times on bill mahr i see a republican make a really good economical point which he makes some off topic joke and he changes the subject. The news isnt news but propaganda. I think that's with any of the networks. I'll watch Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc during the day. As soon as the evening rolls around with idiot talk shows, I switch to something else.

I never said my political opinion, I simply said the thread breaks the rules of the forums and it's biased to one side. It also DOES involve religion. There's also no rule against reading things I don't like, otherwise I wouldn't read 99% of the threads on here.

Actually, politics are very specifically allowed on the off topic forums. There were even two political stickies up for over a year that were entirely based on politics. As for religion, it's more of a gray area, but generally unless you talk about religion itself, as in the specific beliefs or saying "christians are stupid lawl" or what have you, than skirting the edges is fine.

If you have a significant problem with how things are run on the forum, there is nothing to keep you here. Why stay on a site that apparently makes you miserable?

Quoting again for visibility. WBC hates gays but that doesn't make them a conservative. What if a person is fine with gay people but is against unions and pro no government control for organization? What if an atheist is pro abortion but hates gay people, does that make him a liberal?

Hating on gay people does not make a person/organization conservative.
Loving gay people does not make a person/organization liberal.
