    SSD caching Asus P9X79 Pro

    Hey guys,
    I have a noob question.

I have an Asus P9X79 pro. I'm thinking about using the SSD caching function.
My SSD is a Crucial M4 256 GB with the OS on it.
Would it be possible or practical to use an HDD 2 TB as the cache?
I was under the impression that this SSD caching function was useful only if the
OS was on the HDD. If it is possible, would I notice any speed improvements over a regular SSD?

    OS: WINDOWS 7 profession
    CPU: i7 3930k
    GPU: GXT590
    RAM: gskills z 32 GB 1866
    SSD: M4 256
    HDD: 2x 2 TB
    PSU: Silverstone 1000w

I think you misunderstand what SSD Caching is.

SSD Caching is using the SSD as the HDD's cache (not the other way around. You wouldn't want to use a slower device for the cache). I think you even have to have the drives set up as modified RAID-0 to enable it.

It is not useful (or even possible?) to use it with your OS on the SSD.

Thanks. I kinda had a feeling it wouldn't work.

SSD caching is meant to be used with tiny crap 16GB SSDs that are useless for anything else.

With proper 250GB SSD you do not want or need or benefit anything from the caching feature.

    Trolling should be.
