Nice to see it's won yet another GOTY, Gz ANet!
Which just shows just how strange the voting result is. If people are voting SWTOR for 3rd best mmo, best f2p really? (http://www.swtor.com/free/features) one can only call their taste in games as dubious.
Guild Wars 2 is great, but it lacks something and doesn't have the same touch on me as WoW does.
Also it's already 2013 for me3+ hours ago. Happy New Year!
True. Funny thing is wow made the list, ironic thing is that it will probably make it next year when it will be second or third to the next FOTM MMO, oh well.
Again graphics get mistaken for aesthetics, not biggie but GW better than TERA? That game doesn't get a lot of things right but the graphics are spectacular.
I agree about the graphics versus aesthetics, although for awards they just get lumped into one overall award I think. I think GW2 has the best overall presentation in that regard.
I really liked the big ass monsters in Tera though, pretty neat looking.
I know.
Gaming in audience, journalism and critique is still a poor medium.
In order to understand the hells that plague Ascalon, one must embody it. Embody Hell. Becoming a servant to the flame and wielding it's untouched glory. Being shrouded by ash, brimstone, fire and lava. Only those that understand may defeat. Demons of the flame, elementals from the hells. All with one task. Incinerate. Maybe now you understand why I task myself with this road to incineration. ~JawDane
I've seen like...one post from some guy suggesting an award was bought. I've seen about 500 posts like this, where someone claims that anyone who disagrees with the award is saying the award was bought.Erm, that's the response stupid people give. I've seen more claims of "X GAME OR Y DEVELOPER CLEARLY BOUGHT THEIR REVIEW SCORE/PLACEMENT IN A EoY ROUNDUP!" this year than ever before, and it's the most foolish thing ever.
Chill out on crying wolf.

I think you missed what I meant. I mean that major MMO releases always clean up on awards in the year they're released, over other genres of games. Maybe partly because reviewers do such a poor job reviewing them, and players are still in that MMO-Honeymoon phase.Provided the game [MMO] is released within the year of the listing and playable, this is exactly as it should be.
You don't pass out an MMO of the Year 2012 award to Vanguard anymore than you would list Moby Dick Book of the Year 2012.
Also, call Time and tell them that they should only choose a "Person of the Year" in the year that person was born.(Ok, ok, snarkiness)

There were a number of posts in multiple threads on these forums, plus posts in the VG forums about this nonsense, plus posts/comments across a few dozens websites I frequent that stated the same thing.
I've seen more complaints about awards/review scores being bough (specifically EoY awards) this year than any years I've seen in the past. It's actually so common it's blowing my damn mind. It's not just for GW2, it's for any game that they personally didn't like.
I'm just beyond frustrated reading those types of comments at this point. When I see people claiming games like FTL or Hotline Miami, games that had basically zero marketing budget and aren't multi-million dollar sellers, bought their places, I want to put my fist through the internet, and into their faces (fun fact: I'm working on a device that will let me do so, still accepting donations to fund my research!)
Planetside 2 graphics are miles ahead of Gw2 on a technical point, art depends on the taste
Warlock / IA Operative / Wizard / Engineer
No, I gotcha. And it is as it should be.
Is that an MMO in 201x? Did the editorial like it? Okay, here you go. We picked up this trophy at the hobby store. Grats.
Regardless of how much time the reviewer(s), editorial or pundits placed into the game. There is no way to "prove" they didn't enjoy the game as much as they say they did and no way to prove the irksome aspects of the game are as irksome to the award givers as they are to Fencers, Bovinity or Susie Whogivesashit. It's totally pointless to even mention.
People are not media. Time's "person of the year" accolade is a humanitarian or lifetime achievement award. No one is giving out award to Raging Bull years after the fact for the current year.
