Hooking up my PS3 to my PC Monitor

I have an Acer V193w and I would like to be able to hook up my PS3 to this monitor if possible. I've looked all around Google and either nobody has tried to do this, or it isn't possible. From what I've "found", it doesn't appear that I am able to do this with this monitor. I'm curious though, maybe I am looking in the wrong places or something. I'd really like to do this, because there are times when I want to play my PS3.. and watch TV at the same time but if it's not possible then of course I won't bother with it. Can anyone tell me if there is a special adapter somewhere that would work for this that I can't find?

Here is my monitor if you guys need to check it out

Unless your monitor is older, a HDMI cable should do the trick.

Unless your monitor has the bare minimum of the 3 component cables or a DVI input it will not work. As it stands from the technical specs on that monitor, it doesn't have that. It has a VGA input. Meaning its not even HD. You would need a newer monitor and most likely a more expensive monitor for this.

I would think an HDMI to VGA converter would do the trick. I need to do this myself, or get a new monitor with an HDMI input.

No your monitor can't take the standard PS3 cable for a tv,

    but

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/PS3-HDMI-DVI...7086163&sr=8-4

That costs 1.99 and is a usb connection with a VGA adapter at the end,

Personally, when I buy a monitor, I buy a TV one as well, or sockets for TV as I can use it as my desktop screen and 360 screen,

    Edit:

Until 30 seconds ago, I never heard of a VGA cable like the one I pasted for a console for this type of problem, it took literally 20 seconds to open a page and type in PS3 VGA cable, I really dont think you spent time looking for yourself

Your monitor only has a VGA interface. You'll need a converter / adapter from HDMI to VGA.
So as odd as it is... there aren't really HDMI to VGA adapters... (female to male).

What you can do is do HDMI to DVI then DVI to VGA.

Be sure to make sure what is the male / female (insert / receive... wow that sounds odd).

That's a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Well to be honest I don't know a whole lot about this stuff, so I was trying to look online and searched "PS3 to Acer V193w adapter" and I was getting nothing out of it

So if I were to buy both of those, what other cables would I need to be able to connect to both of those adapters to both my monitor and my PS3?

You should be fine with connecting the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the HDMI to DVI, then just directly connect the DVI to VGA, then that to your monitor, it might be a bit odd looking.

    Assuming this is your monitor

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009139

Your monitor doesn't support HDCP so you can't play Blu Ray movies. Games I believe should work fine.

You're going to definitely need an adapter for the VGA connection. An RCA to VGA adapter will work since your monitor doesn't have HDMI/DVI connectivity. Had an old BenQ monitor without an HDMI/DVI input and had to resort to this method. That RCA to VGA adapter should do the trick.

You can just goto a dollar store and look for one as well.

Ah right, alternatively, you could get this.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812270113
Then the previously mentioned DVI to VGA.
However this removes your HDMI cable necessity from your original PS3.

The quality obviously will be pretty well, terrible. But it will work.

    Daltron's method is also viable.

    Alright cool, thanks guys

You can't just take an HDMI to DVI cable then an DVI to VGA adapter.

You're trying to take a digital signal and display it on an analog monitor.

The DVI to VGA adapter works by using the DVI-Analog pins, which will not be found in the HDMI to DVI cable. You're not going to get a signal.

What you're going to need is something like this : http://www.hdfury.com/ That actually has the Digital to Analog converter.

It'd be cheaper to just buy a new monitor than to buy the HD Fury though.

The RCA to VGA adapter won't work either as those are meant to only be used with certain brands / models of projectors.

Ah yeah it definitely would be cheaper to get a new monitor, I'll look into it. Thank you
