Quick PSU question.

My PSU is a bfgr550wgxpsu(http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...942984&site=cp) and I've had it for about 5-6 years. I was wondering how much longer its going to hold out. Considering that BFG when under and the warranty is no long valid should I get a backup psu just in case? I know this may be a stupid question but I just had to ask. I do love this psu and I wish they still made them.

It's getting weaker every year, but there's no fixed point when you need replacement or backup. When you start getting mysterious crashes when starting games, you know it can no longer feed the graphics card properly and needs replacement.

What's the rest of your computer?

well.. meh. I had one of those and it lasted me a very long time as well. Might be worth throwing down $60 to get a new one that's for sure. Last thing you want is to have it go out badly and take your system with it - especially after 5-6 years.

You don't need any more than 500w for your system, so I would go with a simple Corsair 500w (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139027) and call it a day. Better to spend $60 now than to spend a few hundred replacing the system that the old psu killed. Contrary to popular belief, the PSU is easily the most important part for a computer.

Well I can't complain, $40 PSU lasting 5-6 years and going though 3 builds is pretty good. Maybe I'll pick up a new PSU come tax season.

I only have one complaint with that PSU, I really prefer modular power supplies and I'm willing to spend a little extra to get one. But I can't seem to find any that I like and have good reviews that are under 600w. I've been looking at http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-...224125&sr=1-15
