disconnect, wrong to take advantage of?

ive been watching games for quite awhile now but recently ive noticed a few people complain about people dc'ing and then basically getting shit on when they come back due to being down a few levels.

for instance i was watching a ranked match earlier tonight and there was a fiddlesticks playing support in the bottom lane with ezreal. he dc'ed when he was level 5 for whatever reason and by the time he came back he was 2 levels below anyone on the other team. granted the enemy miss fortune and zyra didnt make a straight b-line for him but when an exchange happened between the two they both switched to him immediately and dropped him fairly quickly. he immediately complained about it and was complaining there was no "sportsmanship"

so whats peoples' opinions on this. is it wrong to take advantage of someone dc'ing? should you take the honorable approach and maybe let up on a lane and let him gain a level or two?

edit : i should have also asked, is it wrong to push the lane of the person who is dc'd?

It's not against the rules in anyway to take advantage of people disconnecting. And despite having a numbers advantage, it IS possible for a short-handed team to win the game. Happened to me personally once in Dominion, where AFKers make a much more noticeable difference, where we lost 5v4 despite being up a man.

I don't think there is anything unsportsmanlike about hard switching onto someone whom is underleveled in a teamfight/exchange, or even making an effort to harass him more. If you DC for some reason, you should expect to have to play your lane -very- defensively for some time in order to catch back up a little.

I DO think it's unsportsmanlike to continuously go out of your way to gank someone (as in, from another lane or from jungle) who has DC'd and gotten a little behind. If you feel that it's the only way to rack up stats and wins, then you probably don't deserve higher stats and don't belong at a higher elo.

    Sportsmanship is for sports.

We're playing a game on the internet with random people and we're playing to win. Obviously any advantage should be exploited to its maximum potential.
Though luck, really. If you DCd just play more defensive. If you get towerdived/ganked then so be it. You'll catch up in levels eventually.

Sure, it might not be the nicest thing in the world but the world aint a fair place :P

You know, back in the day when I played Quake 3 online, there was somewhat of an unspoken rule that you wouldn't kill players that were typing or lagging. You could tell because they'd have the chat icon above their head, or their ping would be 999.
Rarely did I see people kill them on purpose. Shooting them once was a reaction before you noticed, which was different. People who constantly broke it could even be kicked.

Nowadays? Kill them. No excuse. It sucks ass to DC in a MOBA, you lose farm and everything else. Might as well finish him while you're at it :/

As for your example if they didn't kill fiddle first they might have lost the exchange. Even if he is 2 lvs behind he is still a very scary guy and might have very well been prioritised yust as much if he wasn't behind.

Beign sportsmanship like in a situation like that can very well lose you the game.

Oh hey, let's ignore the underleveled Fiddle! Damn! Feared, Silenced and Ulted by him! Meanwhile, his AD carry gets a double kill. Seems like a brilliant idea.

huge difference playing seriously vs someone who's underleveled due to DC and going jungle hunting a lvl 1 dc'd mumu.

Was in an ARAM with some friends of a friend a while ago, and two of his buddies were on the opposing team. One of them DC'd close by the first turret, and I decided to go all out on him. Some other friend just went batshit crazy at me for killing his dc'd friend. I had a good laugh out of that, and he rage quit the game.

Best part is that his other friends decided to join in on that kill and didn't get shouted at. :3

DC'ing in a competitive game is like falling asleep during a party. If it happens to you, you're screwed.

Perfectly fine to take advantage of anything you can (that's not against the rules) in a competitive game. What I dislike about DCs is when people start going "GG easy" if they beat you at the end, despite the fact that the game would obviously have gone quite differently with as little as one more meatshield present.
    Meh.

    Two things.

    1)Fix your PC/connection.

2)LoL needs to get out of its high horse and start implementing things..HELLO MISTER PAUSE BUTTON.

People taking advantage of a disconnect on a competitive its the same reason as to why people rage, its in the human nature to be competitive.

I don't see how a team would/should realistically not be able to take advantage of a D/C, especially when it the fault is not their own. I would actually prefer them to try their hardest to win quickly for more points, since most teams would surrender at 20 and everyone would get half.

Now I do take issue with the lucky team being assholes about it later, bragging about how awesome they are for winning 5 vs 4 or something. That would not be ok.

There's a Pause button for tournaments. Anything else is beyond stupid. Hey, let's pause this game for 15 minutes and then restart it when the entire enemy team went to watch porn because there's nothing happening.

If they'd implement it like in Warcraft 3 it's a minor nuisance at best.
You can pause a game twice, and the other team can click "unpause". IF they are fair players (not so likely in a random game, but in 5v5 arranged team it might happen) they will let you pause it untill they get tired of waiting, and if they don't they'll just press Unpause twice and get on with it.

    Ideal? No. Better? Yes.

No, it has no purpose other than just to be abused or used annoyingly. Especially with spectate feature in the game. If teams are gonna be sporting then just say in chat "We have a DC, dont kill/push" and if the other team wants to respect that they will. We've been in games where someones DC'd and we've not pushed or taken baron, we cleaned out the enemy jungle but that was it.

I dont agree with killing someone thats DC'd and if I spot that normally I dont kill people (unless its an AD that is AA you, then you dont have much choice!) If someone comes back and is lower level they get a slight grace period in which to farm, but if they wanna come into a fight they will be the first to die.

well he was level 5 so he didnt have his ult, but yea i agree, not killing him first in the exchange would probably be a bad idea

Ofcourse not. It's not my problem the guy couldn't fix his connection. I'm not gonna whine and bitch when I get killed because my brother is being a jackass and downloading (not at the opponents anyway lol), it's not their fault.

Fix your connection and stop whining, it's simple as. Don't queue when it's unstable.

And a pause button, really? With this community? You must be insane. The amount of trolls just randomly pressing pause for no reason just to piss people off...

Nope! It frustrates me immensely if I die because I dced or something, but there's not much you can do about other than checking your things and seeing what caused the problem (or at university literally nothing at all).

I don't go out of my way to kill someone that dced, but if they are just standing there, i'll go in for the kill. I do have some friends who respect the dced person and actively tries not to kill them.
