    •Budget £800-£900
•Resolution 1680x1050 currently but might get a new monitor after himself so that would be 1920x1080
•Games / Settings Desired wow & fps shooters
•Any other intensive software or special things you do (Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc) video encoding
    •Country UK
•Parts that can be reused nothing
•Do you need an OS? wants W7 as advised not to get w8
•Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)? if he could get a build including a monitor and another excluding it that would be great

    thanks in advance

    Definitely not Alienware, first off.

When you says he does "Video Encoding"... can you explain more? What programs does he use? that can determine if an i7 would be useful or not.

yeah thats what i told him. he said he uses tmpeg, convertx, handbreak & mkvmerge

If those are your option option 4 is probably gonna be your best bet if you guys 100% do not want to build your own machine.
    Option 1: Non OCing cpu
    Option 2: Ghetto alienware
Option 3: decent but no OS, has good video card, overclockable processor, decent ram, overall a decent machine throw a aftermarket cooler in it and OC. case looks kinda snazzy .
Option 4: Basically the same as Option 3 but has OS installed.

So probably in order 4>3>2>1 although if you have an OS liscence lying around Id take Option 3 but that just an opinion on the case design.

im trying to convince him to build it himself, i only linked those pcs to show what he had looked at himself. what i really need is a build i can show him so he clearly sees he will get more for his money if he builds it himself. all i can go by is what i bought in september and im sure things have even changed since then

By building himself, he can get a super fast SSD on top of the builds up there for the same price. Something like

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (£163.94 @ Amazon UK)
    Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard (£101.98 @ Dabs)
    Memory: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£34.99 @ Scan.co.uk)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£43.91 @ Aria PC)
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk (£105.84 @ Amazon UK)
    Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card (£299.60 @ Scan.co.uk)
Case: Fractal Design Core 3000 ATX Mid Tower Case (£45.98 @ Dabs)
    Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 520W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply (£67.66 @ Amazon UK)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) (£59.94 @ Aria PC)
    Total: £923.84
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

    That.

A modular or semi-modular PSU would make the build tidier, you can change the case for any ATX case on the market if you don't like the more refined look of the Fractal.

Also, the cooler on EVGA cards is fairly mediocre. I really wouldn't recommend them if you can get a different manufacturer (MSI, Gigabyte etc)

An EVGA card is the last thing I would recommend GPU-wise, if you're used to jet engines I guess it's fine.
