While I'm a huge fan of the old gods, I feel like Illidan's cunning would outweigh the raw power of Cho'gall, Cho'gall always seemed like a bit of a pushover, a lot of talk and no game.
I'll have to go with Illidan. He became incredibly powerfull during TBC, is much smarter, much faster, and his metamorphosis ability is just badass.
This battle is a lot more balanced than the poll would suggest. You need to leave your love of Illidan at the door - He really isn't as incredible and special as some people are trying to make out here.
Cho'Gall was an immensely powerful ogre mage. Easily in the Top Ten mages in the warcraft universe.
He could use a lot of magic and, because he is an ogre, give Illidan a thumping if he got close.
Illidan was a power hungry sorceror/demon hunter where the ends always justify the means for more magic so long as Tyrande doesn't get hurt. He is blind but has a different kind of vision burned into his eyes by Sargeras himself. He will probably play to his strengths of agility and flight against Cho'Gall.
All in all, I'd say Cho'gall.
On top of that he wasn't alone, he had Illidari army doing the conquering. And you know what Cho'gall had? Twilight Hammer. He was only it's leader.
Twilight Hammer had presence in: Mount Hyjal, Darkshore, Ashenvale, Desolace, Silithus, Feralas, Uldum, Ahn'Qiraj, Thousand Needles, Mulgore, Azshara, Deepholm, Dragonblight, Twilight Highlands, Loch Modan, Vashj'ir, Searing Gorge and Blackrock Mountain. Slightly more than Twilight Highlands. They also had spies within Horde and Alliance, were allied with Dark Iron clan, Blackscale Naga and Druids of the Flame and used enslaved elementals.
And most importantly, Twilight Hammer, unlike Illidari, was not the alpha dog. They were below Deathwing, and through him they were allied with two Elemental Lords and their minions, Azshara and her naga, black, twilight, infinite and chromatic dragonflights and faceless ones. They are shown working with each of these factions in the game.
Illidan was not backed by Kil'Jaeden. He was his errand boy twice and he failed him twice. After that he was so afraid of him he went on his quest to shut down all portals left in Outland. He is an enemy of the Burning Legion. There is a reason why a rather strong fel reaver is pounding at the gates of Black Temple. He had some demons join him, because of the device that broke magic addiction (the one he didn't inform Blood Elves of).
But Cho'Gall is a servant of Deathwing and the Old Gods. Basically the only true thing here is that he was faster. While Cho'Gall was more resilient and physically stronger.
Illidan also was someone's "pawn" multiple times. He worked for Azshara and the Burning Legion on few occasions in the war of the ancients. He also was Kil'Jaeden's little bitch during TFT.
wasn't Illidan infused with power granted by the titan Sargeras? the eyes being replaced with power and the runes carved into his skin and such? (or was that sargeras's pawn Kil'jaeden that did that?) if that was the case then surely those being empowered by the titans (who defeated and imprisoned the old gods in azeroth) would hold an advantage in power lore wise?
Too often, we are mistaken for druidic types. perhaps that's true for some shaman, but do not let yourself be plagued by the ignorant belief that we are always peaceful.
Nothing about what I do is harmonious. I command the elements to my will. There is nothing offered in return. I would have it no other way.
Never assume an ogre's stupid, that's when they'll get you.
KJ is now rivaling Sargeras in power. An old god would be no match for him unless we're talking N'zoth.
The Lich King easily rivaled Yogg-Saron in power.
Illidan and Cho'gall ARE a very good match. I'd honestly leave it up to a tie. I'd say the match is pretty much akin to Illidan vs. Arthas.

I never posted my opinion about who would win. After reading all these good arguments I would have to go with Illidan as he was directly empowered by Sargeras, aborbed the skull of Gul'dan, and was a badass mage/fighter. Illidan I think would be faster than Cho'gall and if cho'gall would start overwhelming Illidan he would use his metamorphosis, cho'gall would react with his transformation but his body at that point is no longer his own and I think the advantage of Illidan still having control over his mind would bring forth his win in the end.
Also, we're forgetting that the Old Gods known power is all about manipulation, shadow magic, and minions, lots of minions.
But so do the demons as well.. demons use Fel magic, shadow magic, manipulation, and minions. Add to that the cunning Illidan has, and the already mentioned gift of the fallen Titan, Sargeras.
Keep in mind that the Titans did beat the living hell out of them Old Gods, they even killed one of them... Y'shaarj that is, and beat C'thun and drove him into few thousand years slumber.
All in all.. very close, but I doubt that someone empowered by the Old Gods would beat someone that shares the powers the Burning Legion has/uses, and is empowered by a Titan.
Oh.. did I say that Illidan is a half demon too?.. so in theory.. till proven otherwise.. he cannot really die!
Warlocks get buffed ONE TIME and suddenly developers are getting fired over it...
