My enthusiasm for the WoW-General directory at MMO Champ is surely dwindling...that's about as close as I come to the OP's premise.

I haven't seen a huge drop in player's in the game but have seen a much higher difficulty in recruiting good players. i don't know if the player base is declining performance wise(top 200 guild) or good player's have left the server. I do see a lot more recruiting across servers and paying for their character transfers which didn't happen as much before.

i don't know if wow is dwindling but this is what i have been affected by.

The deal is that the game is 8 years old and has more competition from F2P and elsewhere than ever before.

A smarter question is how on earth did it ever get this far and maintain a user base in the millions while charging by-the-month for it. No other game has done that so what's so different about World of Warcraft?

By the by, we could use more in the way of smarter questions.

Just because you say so, that does not make it so. I don't do dailies, and I'm having fun. They are absolutely not forced... unless you are a weak minded sheep that feels compelled to do things you don't enjoy. /shrug

And if something that is not necessary kills your enjoyment....then you never really enjoyed it.

That would be nice if they didn't nerf as much but they already have to nerf elegon because people couldn't get past that boss. Heroic bosses have already been nerfed but anymore, that is what blizzard does, design decent content then nerf it.

In large part, thanks to things like Mumble, Skype, Vent and TS. You don't have to be some uber epic player to have fun.

And it is the vocal minority that cry out for the nerfs. Don't label everyone that way just because you like to generalise.
i don't care who you raid with or what you do but the problem lies in people playing with bad players expecting to clear heroic content. I am all for people playing with friends and all that but I am against people expecting the same loot as everyone else while playing with people who are very bad. if you want to play with friends and have a good time then great but it also sounds like you don't expect to clear everything which is how it should be.

If you want to progress you play with others who want the same. If you play with friends and you know you probably wont clear much but have a good time then that is what you enjoy. You aren't expecting to clear content and get a lot of gear each week but to hang with friends and have a laugh. Nothing wrong with that.

There is a difference between content and good content. The game has absolute zero depth to it anymore. Simple, shallow, hollow.

I find that there are people that get pleasure in downing bosses, and it is enough that THEY know they got it down pre-nerf. They do not need exclsuivity for the game to feel fun.

Then there are those who CAN'T STAND that Blizzard slowly nerfs content over time, and that it is not enough that they did the content pre-nerf. They need something (mount, title, etc.) that makes them publicly different (aka special).

I killed Elegon pre-nerf, and I could really care less how easy they make it. It is enough for me to know I did it when I did it. How about you?

Perfectly subjective opinion. I think a lot of the MoP content is superior to previous expansions. Much more depth than TBC had. Raids are much more engaging. More fun things to do. More overall enjoyment for me. To each their own.

So any motivation to get better is answered with nerf's coming every tier. Why get better when you know they will nerf it down? I think that is part of the reason that player base has a lower talent level than before. Imo people got better because things weren't nerfed or weren't nerfed as fast making people get better or look to see where the weak link was in the raid. It seems that guilds just go along getting the 5-6 bosses a week waiting for nerfs or at least that is what i have experienced trying to help some friends with progression.

There's more to do now, then there was in BC. Yet, there's something that is never brought up and only a few people tend to bring it up occasionally. What I'm talking about is the social impact. That's what keeps a game alive. I see some areas it's being replenished forcefully like, Goldshire. Some guilds will always have the lively hood, while other guilds die out slowly. The game has too much to do (which is okay), but socialism really isn't there. I wont blame it on one thing, but most people are playing the solo game nowadays anyhow. That doesn't mean the game has died off yet, but it is rotting.

Wasn't 5.1 intended to be one of the smaller, "filler" patches that they discussed would appear between raid tiers?

I judge the game on PvE content and PvE content alone...doing dailies and pet battles is nothing something I call worth the time.

Probably some truth in that. It's why I started working so hard to get better years ago. I am more bothered by the little things that used to be a total PITA, but they took them away due to quality of life. Like lockpicking skill. Training that SUUUUCKED, but it made sense... training a skill meant you had to do something.

I think they took a lot of little time sinks out of the game, and many of them were things that gave the game depth.

    For me and my house:
My husband and I are just burned out right now. We've raided since Kara and just haven't been in the "raiding mood" since the end of Cata. I *love* to level and I'm having more fun leveling alts than doing dailies, farms, instances, raids on my main.
My husband and I are spending more time out of the game and catching up on TV shows, playing Skylanders with our kids and letting our kids play WoW.

We still love WoW but after 7 years of playing we just need some time off. A lot of people in our guild feel the same. They haven't quit just taking some time off or popping in for an hour or so then logging off.

Also, remember that while yes, for sure the oldest players are by and large beginning to burn out, WoW has had several times more players stop playing it than are currently playing it. That means that there are far more 'new' players then there are old players.

OK this is the bit I really do not understand, or you have very very short term memory (or this is just another Jaylock thread).

In 4.1 I did raiding on my main and smashed my face into ZA/ZG to get to Valor cap.

On my warlock alt I smashed my face into ZA/ZG until I could not keep the vomit in any more to get to Valor cap.

And you really really think that there is LESS to do in 5.1 than in 4.1?

    Are you high?

I log on each day and I am almost overwhelmed with choice for what to do.

Sure you might be able to say you don't like the content, but content is now less varied?

    Challenge Modes are great.

    I really like Scenarios.

    LFR for alts is great.

I really like the fact you gain valor from Dailies.

Not once in MoP have I smashed my face into dailies sometimes I do 1 set sometimes ./gasp I don't do dailies at all, this keeps it very "varied".

Do I wish they would up the rate of Valor gain, sure I can 100% see that but "WoW is now less varied".

Sorry don't get it at all.

Good thing I don't have to do that in MoP, either.

I max out VP for the week on one character by thursday. After that, VP is increased 50% on the others. On them, I get 675 VP from LFR. If I do 45 dailies for the lesser charms, that by itself will cap VP. No heroics or scenarios required.
