how to play Monks in PvP

Hey what the play style of monks/ how do you play them in PVP for Healing and DPS. I am not getting the damage that I want or even decent damage. Want to try healing with them but never played a healer so how do you play one. Also I hear Monks have good control how is that I don't seem to see that when i play mine. Also I am only lvl 60 right now but I have done quite a few pvp games with the best gear I can have but not get the stats I want from my monk. So any tips on how to play them in PvP

As a Windwalker we are currently not performing great in the standards of burst in PvP - hopefully changing in 5.2 with the new Mastery change.

We easily get crowd controlled in PvP and even though we are very mobile it still feels like the other classes (ranged, healers), can easily get away from us.

In terms of the Mistweaver, I don't think much is changing for them in 5.2, so I'm guessing Blizzard have them somewhat where they want them to be.

@Zaldimar in terms of Windwalker PVP, a few things you need to always have up, when engaging a target:

A snare (either flying serpent kick ou disable) so you can have up time on your targer.
    you're attack powerbuff (tigerplam).
You're mortal wounds debuff on the target (Rising sun kick).

Those are you're must have things up, after that is blackout kick (but always prioritizing RSK).
When you disable a snared target, they get rooted which makes a good window to use Fists of Fury.

Touch of Karma for when your opponent is popping his cd's (VS hunter i like to use it on their pet in order to kill it fast, which handicap's them by alot).
Diffuse magic to reverse all magical abilities i have on myself and/or using it to negate a incoming high magical damage.
Dampen harm is good agaisnt hard hitting classes (although i don't like it much because (let's use my current HP - 337k, dampen harm will only proc its effect when i get hit for 67,400dmg but if you get hit 2 times for 60k it's 120k that wasn't negated by dampen harm.

In arenas agaisnt teams that i know they will give me hard time and that i might have to reset the fight i like to put a teleport with 3 healing spheres behind a portal.
Energizing brew isn't good just for creating resourses (energy) for damaging abilites, it helps alot to spam healing orbs in a moment of need sometimes, (like behind a pillar where those 3 pre-emptive orbs where.

Might think of a few things later on.

I will add that make sure you use Expel Harm and Chi Wave on CD / chi that will help a lot with healing and also take some pressure off of your healer, again prio these or RSK depending on the situation.

i would say always keep up Disable on as many targets as possible, you can then root nearly anyone you like whenever you like seeing as it's re-applied to anyone in 10 yards this is extremely good for peels, not only that it's not as visual as say frost nova so teams around some ratings wont notice until whoever you peeled for is safe and sound.

Grapple weapon is GREAT for some offensive preassure (5% increased damage) stack this with trinket + TeB for greater burst/sustained (hehe) again this is great as a defensive too so its down to your discretion however a 1min CD is quite nice i try to use it on CD with TeB if it's safe.

Dampen harm is bugged but still Diffuse won't help with melee classes with physical damage so change to dampen and hope it works for you when you need it.

last thing i can think of to add is Xuen, make sure you have done damage to the target you want it to attack (and hopefully stay on) i find Crakling Jade Lightning i have had the most success with before popping him.

I just tried to check out Evoque on Youtube but it seems her Monk videos are all private. Are they located only on Braindeadly's channel?

I think most if not all of her monk videos are on braindeadly channel

The goal for WW seems to be get TeB to 10 stacks and 4 Chi, then land a CC on the non-kill target. Start by using Grapple Wep, Xuen, pop TeB, Trinket and RSK BOK then Chi Brew and BOK BOK. That burst sequence does INSANE damage and if you've successfully CCed the other target it shouldn't be too hard to pull off. Obviously if you can do this sequence during a 5sec Leg Sweep then it becomes even more effective.

I ran 2s with a Rdruid and this burst sequence usually landed a kill or got our target to <20% hp. If we realize that we aren't going to land a kill the Rdruid will cyclone the target at 20% hp (to prevent heals) and then we have 6 seconds to wait on CDs and line up an easy CC on the healer. Cycloning the kill target is an extremely underused strategy, especially in 2s.

Righteo here we go again, hopefully i wont delete it this time around.

    Mistweavers

Positioning: you must position yourself extremely well as a MW monk and be aware of where you partner and enemies are at all times, if you get caught without your trinket and your team has no way to dispel/help you could spell death for anyone in your team for you can sit in a full CC chain of easily 20-30seconds depending on what comp your fighting against and how many brain-cells they have or of course how fast you are at re positioning.

    Spells:

Soothing Mist: unfortunately you are going to NEED to cast this sometimes for the instant enveloping's or surging mistsfor burst healing, and after spamming Surging Mist you might find yourself nearly OOM however do not worry too much we are good at re-genning once you upgrade a bit and make sure you use Mana Tea on CD, no exceptions this will help you keep topped as much as possible along with your combat re-gen you'll be fine but you must let your mana build up again so you can burst heal without much ''pressure'' on your mana pool so great team co-ordination is necessary.

Thunder Focus Tea: now this is priceless once you get the 4 piece bonus you can free cast in someones face as it makes you immune to silences/interrupts which is a godsend as if you have Renewing + enveloping + TFT up you get some serious heals and i have yet to see a burst which can compete with it however of course people can still sheep/deep/charge/fear/ etc so still be careful.

TFT Component:- Free 100% Surging or Uplift - well this depends if you need that 100% increase use it on whoever is too low otherwise i would say using it to freely renew renewing mist is priceless and saves a ton of mana so this is really at your discretion and changes from situation to situation.

Enveloping Mist: Use EVERY chance you get this is a serious spell it is a godsend, not much explanation needed here.

Renewing Mist: Use whenever you need to but this can eat mana if cast repeatidly so try not to overlap thus wasting mana as a surging could be more effective and your mana tea and re-gen will sort you back up to full mana.

Statue: Be aware of this at all times its VERY powerful when coupled with renewing + enveloping + Soothing its another Soothing basically and you can burst heal without using mana on surging, really on your HoT's people will dip but you'll win unless of course they severely out gear you as usual.

Healing Spheres: great healing tool for relatively cheap cost there not as powerful as they once where but when you cant cast these are great heals on the run, don't forget or underestimate them also be sure to first lay them on your portal or your partners (lock for instance).

Expel Harm: Use every CD no exceptions an awesome chi generator for more envelops / uplifts thus more Mana tea thus more mana.

Grapple Weapon: Save for when you need your extra 5% healing this helps during burst and cripples warriors and helps with druids so its a double wammy again if you have no pressure coming out for the majority of the match just use it when you feel like and extra 5% healing, simples.

Zen Meditation: use it above Life Cocoon on yourself if your with spell casters it saves a big CD and is equally as good when its not broken, also saves your diffuse.

Disable: Keep up 24/7 a self re-applying slow when you can root whenever you wish is peeling heaven.

Tiger Palm: if your forced to melee and can spare a few tiger palms a free surging mist is always welcome however i advise against much if any melee fist weaving as its mana intensive and you will OOM yourself very fast.

Touch of Death: This actually heals your target for around 110k at 10% or under so if you can this is rather nice however i'm not sure if this is a bug as i cannot find a tool-tip for it anywhere and sometimes it does not work.

Rest i think is fairly simple cocoon is a bubble, etc.

    Passives;

Dematerialize: I will say this as i see so many MW's trinketing too early, 2.5 seconds of damage immunity is godly keep an eye on your DR's and you wil find no trinket is unnecessary which is incredible really.

    Free Surging passive note;
When you Tiger Palm, you gain Vital Mists reducing the cast time and mana cost of your next Surging Mist by 20%. Stacks up to 5 times. Lasts 30 sec.

    Talents;

    1) Celerity: my personal favourite the added mobility is awesome.
    2) Chi wave in arena and Chi Burst in BGs/RBGs, a well placed chi burst is pricelss.
    3) Acension: Do not underestimate this, this is pure digital porn.
    4) Leg Sweep: no contest for me a such good peel and offensive stun.
    5) Dampen Harm or Diffuse Melee team go with dampen, caster team go with Diffuse, RBGs i would go Diffuse.
    6) Chi Torpedo: best option here Jade Wind is pointless and down right bad and Xuen is not worth it since the PVP power change, he hits like a noodle.

    Glyphs:

    Mana Tea
    Life Cocoon

rest is personal preference, i like transcendence though the estra range is nice and using uplift with chi builds up more mana tea's and its extremely mana intensive with the glyph.

I'm just wondering what the stat priority for a MW Monk in arenas is. Do we gem spirit? PvP Power? PvP Resilience? Intellect? What do we reforge?

I've been trying out reforging and gemming spirit and it worked out well. I'm now trying reforging crit and gemming PvP Resi/Spirit/Intellect.

I'm not very well geared, dreadful, one piece malevolent 463ilvl weapon.

Some help would be nice from some more experienced MW monks.

I gem spirit but I do rbgs and have not seriously done arenas.

One thing people have not pointed out is our teleport is very strong if used right so make sure to use it at the beginning of the fight. Our positioning is one of the most important things about a monk. Try to roll into healing spheres(that proc from our mastery), keep your slow/snare on melee trying to kill you and roll away after you run our of rolls and the enemy is immune teleport away and try to reset the fight. Your teleport positioning is also very important, try to but it out of los and the farthest it would take the person to attack you. like in blade's edge arena put it on top of the pillar across the rope, or in battle of gillnais(?) I put in one of the houses in waterworks or behind the house in lighthouse. The teleport increases our survivability very greatly make sure you use it. Also make sure to use our disarm, specifically on melee better geared then you.

Monk counter is casters, try to roll behind them and use paralysis then interrupt them. When you use life cocoon when you are dieng try to cc someone that can dispell it from you.

Monks can put out a good amount of throughput though our utility is lacking. Right now I am at 1988 rbg rating so being a monk is not holding me back. My gear might though since i started late. I am thinking of making a mistweaver pvp guide because I tried to look for one but we are lacking in that area.

Also right now Thunder Focus Tea can be used when you are silenced so if you use it and have the 4pc set bonus you will not be silenced.

Prioritization is Spirit until yo have 10k atleast this is crazy good regen

    Gems:

    - Purified Imperial Amethyst x3
    - Misty Wild Jade x 3
    - Sparkling Rivers Heart Heart x4
    Meta: Revitalizing Primal Diamond

Enchants: Intellect / Crit (mastry on boots + run speed increase)

    Reforging : Haste to Crit
    Mastry to Spirit

sorry should of written that in my post.

Very true, but this is being Fixed in 5.2 so not really something you should get into the habbit of doing anymore otherwise you might waste alot of TFT when 5.2 hits.

Is this from MW or WW point of view? i'm only asking as apart form mages i eat everything for dinner between Zen Meditation, Diffuse, Fortyfieing (reduced damage and 20% more hp..) spear strike, sweep, portal, torpedo and cocoon i can more or less MW in casters faces unless im ganged up on

Torpedo + Spinning Crane both heal while your silenced too by the way, should of specified this in my post as well there not big but there very usefull.

This is from a mistweaver/ratedbg PoV, 1v1 you should not die from a caster but a few we are weak against, we have better tools against melee than casters. Also make sure too not reforge too much out of haste, keep 8.5% for the hot ticks.

The only reason I knew that you could use while silenced was because of patch 5.2, lol. Also Spinning Crane is very good to spin(aoe) a flag, it seems to have enough range to hit anyone that is trying to cap the flag.

no point in the extra tick at the moment, the crit will make your HoT's heal a lot more over the course of a match than an extra tick will and our HoT's can also be dispelled so you dont always get a full tick.

Different for RBGs? probably, dont do them :P

Rbgs you have more people to spread your hot around, also it will help your hps. It is not like you have to aim a lot to hit 8.5% haste. Like right now the only 2 haste items I am not reforging are my chest and my ring and I still have 8.53% haste.
