    Installing an SSD

    Hello again all!

Just looking for a little help here, I recently bought a Samsung SSD 840 Pro series (128g) and trying to instal it into my computer. I was looking just to house my games on it (Not my OS). After plugging it in and booting up my computer it will not show the device at all. When I go into the BIOS and enabled AHCI, window's crashes upon loading.

Do I need to instal Windows on the SSD?

    Thanks

You shoudlnt have to load the OS onto the SSD at all. You can very well have it so that the OS is installed on a hard drive and install games on an SSD.

I would first make sure that you have the latest BIOS installed on your motherboard. Then, I would also check to see if you have the latest chipset drivers as well.

Another thing you could do is with the SSD plugged in, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management > and check to see if anything (SSD preferably) is showing up in black with lines going through the white space (unallocated space) and format it from there.

    Hope that helps!

If you want to stop windows crashing in AHCI mode you need to enable AHCI in the registry before you change it in BIOS.

Also a clean install of windows on the SSD is prefered, it is silly to have a SSD for games and keep windows on a HHD.

I hope you you got the OS on your SSD, anything else would be silly. Unless of course it'll act as a second SSD in your system.
