Putting goth and emo together as same styles is about the same as saying steampunk and dieselpunk are the same setting.

Classifications have names and labels for for a reason, not to be haphazardly tossed around by people who can't differentiate between their thumb from their big toe. If you don't like or agree with the criteria behind the label, then just don't use the labels.

The goth kids just like to take it a step further and dye their hair black with red or purple streaks or whatever.
