Low FPS or normal?

Yo, im wondering if anyone here can help me. Im using a NVIDIA GT 240 and AMD phenom 9650 quad core 2.3 GHz with 3 gigabytes of ram on windows XP. However my fps in 25 man raids is under 30 and i have all settings at the lowest, resolution at 1920x1080. Is it normal or is something wrong here?

Any tips on a cheap upgrade for my computer to help me play wow at a very enjoyable fps? I can link my entire setup if needed.

There is no "cheap" upgrade when you need to replace motherboard, CPU, RAM and GPU.
You are looking at a $300 upgrade at least.

I wouldn't go for a new cpu/mb/ram tbh you really need to replace that graphics card. I'm 100% sure this graphics card is luring itself out to its maximum capacity.

Just install gpu-z > sensor tab > enable logfile > disable vsync & do a 25m raid. Then just check if your gpu usage was 99%, if yes (which I'm sure) upgrade it.

Yeah its your video card. I'm running an athlon2 6400+ with a HD6850. I had a similar problem as this machine had a geforce 8800gt in it when I got it. I replaced the video card and now I run 1680x1050@ 50+ fps on ultra settings on all but shadows.

i5 is of course stronger than i3. Since i3 is dual core and i5 is quad core. Even single core performance is stronger on the i5.

Also if you are doing raiding, GPU is irrelevant, your CPU should be at max while GPU struggling to stay awake because of all the spells, numbers(if using recount etc.) and players around you that rely completely on the CPU.

I have CPU using the max it can which is ~60% across all 4 cores(I got i5-2500k) and GPU at around 20%. This is all Ultra mind you.

So CPU is the definite bottleneck, and will be until WoW either allows multi-core support(Quad, Hexa, Hyperthread) or we just get strong enough CPUs, which likely won't happen.

I've got a 512mb (1 gb hyper ram or something) ati radeion HD 4350 graphics card unopened lying here somewhere, do you think it will be at least a bit better than my current? My HDD is also halfly corrupt, very low loading times etc, unallocated areas etc. Can this affect fps in wow?

Well @ Tehterokkar, are you really trying to say the CPU is rendering frames in WoW? No it's not. The gpu renders the frames, not the cpu. In short words a cpu doesn't draw frames or to be more precise WoW has a lot of background stuff like the addons, positions of players/bosses, sounds playing, spells they're casting, physics etc but this part can soak a lot of computation power from the cpu and not leaving enough to instruct the GPU to render the frames.

TL;DR the bottleneck is the GPU -> this is working his ass off in his situation and a better CPU won't improve the frames at all. I'm 100% sure his GPU usage is 99% all the time during raid, no doubt about it. He doesn't need a cpu like the i3 especially for running @ low settings.

@Op If you don't have 300eur, you'll be better off for now by just buying the graphics card nocturnal linked.

If you go below 14~15 FPS in a raid you have a problem. Thats when UI lag starts to kick in and you start to lose a solid amount of DPS/HPS. Your current FPS sounds right for your pc.

Just install your new graphics card to the blue pci express slot and everything should work perfectly.

First of all, your FPS is normal for your setup, 25man raids are very demanding. However your video card is a bottleneck because you're playing at 1080p. Lowering the resolution to 720p should help a lot. Sure, your CPU is kind of old too and yes WoW is a CPU intensive game but because you play in 1080p, your video card is struggling a lot so ideally, you should upgrade both but start with the video card.

As for the HD 4350, it's a worst video card than your Nvidia 240GT :P

That isn't much of an upgrade, you are still looking at a media card. They are not made for gaming.
