I can not even begin to describe how excited I am for this game. I've been following it since the very moment it was announced last year. Mike Podsmith HIMSELF working directly with CD Projekt on this is pretty much a dream come true. Cyberpunk 2020 is the root of so very much of my imagination, writing and gaming background, and in my mind there is no game more perfect than CP2020... I know I shouldn't let my hopes get so sky high. But I can't help it.

The cinematic confirms what I already knew, that CDP knows their source material FUCKING well. Full borgs, I see the corps, I see Night City, SMART guns, (corporate?) ninja, the Corp-District cops, the street vendor cyberware... the only thing it was missing was a ridonculous themed booster gang and a decker/juicer. If I could have already paid for a copy, even without seeing a shred of gameplay, I would have done so.

They've gone at length about how to incorporate the TREMENDOUS number of skills in CP into the game on their blog, which also makes me super happy. This'll be a game made by people who grew up playing it too.

I already know of two characters I'll be making in this game... a tweaked-out, drug-addled decker, and a hardboiled cop, and from what I've read I'll have the absolute freedom to make those. Hopefully though, this time my decker's preferred casual wear won't be 'miniskirt'... there's something to be said for random character generation.

Cyberpunk 2020 (never got to play the original, set in 2013, did read the original rule book though) was my initiation to a long lasting RPG with friends. I had played D&D oneshots before that, but CP2020 is where I got started.

We had a group of these somewhat awesome Eurosolos - a strictly NPC class that shouldn't really be played I think - who started out completely free of any cyber whatsoever. They just had their hugely expensive suits, their trusty super-pimped super-customized Mark II's with which they could shoot the balls off a gnat in a 100 yards, and of course drugs. Lots of drugs. Bag loads of drugs. Combat drugs mostly, though. You've got to live on the edge.

Well, a lot of things happened, and our team of three Eurosolos and one netrunner Bartmoss himself would be proud of, and a couple other guys, decided to hack a Norwegian cyber clinic and take a morphine vacation there. After all, all the best shit was either in orbit or in Europe. The US had the secondary crap. Well, there we went. Problem was, they wouldn't let us in without us taking some augments. So, our crazy leader (of sorts) Harry Seltz decided to replace the nail in his pinky finger for a cybernetic one. That was enough for a month's worth of morphine drips. The rest of us took a few parts.

In the end, my character, imaginatively named "Connor MacLeod" (hey, Highlander was awesome in the late 80s), ended up being a full cyborg. None of that full body replacement crap though. Just the best gear for every "slot". Orbital crystal cybernetic limbs and all that jazz. Throughout his illustrious career, he died at least two times (still alive though), ended up with an EMP of -3 and combat skills through the roof. How's that possible you may ask? Well, sure, RPG's have a rulebook. They also have a GM. The first rule of an RPG? The GM is always right. The second rule? See rule #1.

Anyway... Having an acute case of hitting the pavement after diving off a skyscraper one time, then later being blown up and having your physical body be completely cloned and every cybernetic part replaced while your consciousness is transferred to the net kind of made the whole "cyber psychosis" and EMP thing pointless. Or so we decided.

He'd just stand in the corner of a Night City bar owned by one of our solos, with his Wearman™ playing some satanic metal, nuclear explosions and stuff flashing on his cybernetic eyeballs which had that funky video screen augment the name of which I forgot (EDIT: VerbalEyes™ series "Windows of the Soul", Chromebook 3), drinking "Tar", a 160 proof rum/ethanol mixture he had made up himself (well, his T-Maxx would take care of the alcohol too fast otherwise) to calm his ultra-sensitive combat nerves, all the while having his Mark II at the ready, his biologically, chemically and cybernetically enhanced initiative score so high he'd put a bullet in you before even the thought of starting a fight would have fired in your synapses.

The corporate wars and the Fallout-esque Cyberpunk 203x crap was such a huge letdown. I'm hoping even though we've jumped to the 70s, that the 2020 vibe is still there. I'm anxious to see how this will play out. Perhaps it'll spawn a fresh RPG book set too.

By the way, I love the fact the music in the teaser is actually playing in her head in her Wearman™. Reminded me so much of my character!

Been pretty excited for it since it was first announced, the trailer did not make me any less excited, good song, wish there was more though, then again, it's a teaser trailer.

They do know how to make a trailer don't they. Their Witcher 2 trailers were awesome as well.

Oh god, these arm baldes look awful. Even HR had better design.

But regardless, I'm excited to see an actual cyberpunk game (I hope it is one).
That's why you need me.... Need someone to punish you for your sins.

Cyberpunk stories are always the craziest. My longest-lived character was a hardboiled cop on the edge of the combat zone, far enough away from the corporate haven for the corporations to not give them enough money, close enough to the combat zone to warrant having a confiscated Punknaught at his station's dispatch. I was once boxed into an alleyway with mines on both sides courtesy of a hilarious Mexican Quesadilla-loving booster gang, and then proceeded to drive it through the building as it collapsed.

Naturally, the GM had had the gang rig the surrounding buildings with booby trapped explosives quite a while prior. During this entire fiasco as we're plowing a Punknaught through collapsing buildings, we've got a decker in the back having the most horrific kind of drug withdrawal imaginable, screaming things about his virtual hamster. We all lived, barely, and owed more in hospital bills to a megacorp than we could possibly hope to pay, so we got flown to France to do wetwork, which considering we were in debt, was a pretty sweet deal all things considered.

Our game sessions were a bit... Well... You decide:

We were out on the town in Night City again, and for some reason us three Eurosolos decided to go check out the Afterlife. Imagine a big city night club, full of near-psychosis drugged-out cyber monsters with guns. Still, we fit in nicely. This was pre-Norway though I think, so we were still pretty much human. Well, Harry Seltz (if that was his name at the time, could've been Harry Burns or Nixon too, who knows) had to go to the toilet. Hey, just because heroes don't need to go in movies, doesn't mean they can't in RPG's.

So there he is, in the mens' toilet, as he hears sounds of distress coming from one of the stalls there. I've arrived in the toilet at this point as well, as has the third Eurosolo. Harry opens the stall door and finds some jacked-up solo raping a girl. Well, being the controlled, composed, restrained person that he is, he pulls his Mark II and ventilates the rapist's brain all over the stall walls. Being that we are in a solo bar, the gunshot, as well as the screaming, brain-crusted half naked girl running out of the mens' toilet has the customers of this fine establishment on high alert.

We step out. We roll initiative. Obviously.

Well, being that we're solos as well, of the European variety, with immense unfair NPC bonuses to our initiatives and amazing combat drugs, 10 REF 10 Combat Sense and stuff like that, we get to act first. So we start plowing through the wall of metal and crystal cybernetics and meat. There are a few too many eager solos shooting at us though, and my character takes a critical hit in the manly parts. Next trip to the clinic, Mr Studd was on the shopping list.

At this point our netrunner decides to jack in and hack a spinner cab, which he then proceeds to fly straight into the Afterlife through the wall. Doors are for amateurs.

We make it to the street, where I see another spinner cab waiting. There's a cabbie in the driver's seat, but I want to drive. So I kindly introduce one of my bullets to his brain matter, throw his lifeless corpse onto the street, jump in the spinner, and... Crap. "Hey guys, anyone got spinner piloting?" Obviously not.

Style over substance. Attitude is everything. Right?

Well, we got away once more, nevertheless. Something like the netrunner hacked into a spinner ambulance and flew it remotely and shit.

I'm itching to get back to the streets of Night City, I can tell you that much.

Well, what did you expected from a TEASER? You do realize what a teaser is right? considering that teasers for 9 out of 10 games show NOTHING at all (and I do mean nothing whatsoever) then this was a fantastic teaser. I mean really, did you ever saw the teaser of Skyrim? just an old man doing a voice-over, and closeups of a stone mural, did you saw the teaser for Metal Gear Rising? it was just a close up of raiden's face, and the name of the game, absolutely no narration or anything at all.

Besides, this is not going to be an FPS, its gonna be an RPG, and even if it was an FPS, ABSOLUTELY NONE can be considered "Standard" if they are based in a cyberpunk environment. Standard FPS is your average military shooter based in modern combat ala Modern Warfare.

Witcher was an overrated game for me, but I always love cyberpunk games. Darn..

That teaser is fucking amazing. The wait for this game is going to be painful.

I suppose you have to ask yourself, what about the game was overrated? The story? The mechanics? The execution (bug free)?

the Witcher is great, in my eyes, because they had great material to work with and they made the game REALLY well, that is, it has very few bugs. They also didn't staple on any draconian DRM to the games (they patched it out a month after release). They also have no issues tackling adult content in their games. If Cyberpunk 2077 is anywhere close to the same calibre of game as Witcher 2, then we're in for a treat.

DRM I don't take into account. Sorry, but that doesn't make or break a game.

The witcher 1 (only one I played), while it was a fun game. The combat was horrid, the gameplay was horrible. (invisible walls are not things I expect in a game nowadays)

I hope they make this game actually fun. As much as I wanted to, fought to, tore my hair to, I could not like the gameplay in the Witcher games. I just couldn't, no matter how hard I tried. Sadly it was flat out boring to me, as I enjoyed the story but could not bring myself to see the end of it.

This could very well be a shooter though, hopefully with a large arsenal of melee stuff as well. Looking forward to what more they might show as time goes on, though I'm not taken yet.

For a true Cyberpunk 2020 fanatic, a person who has already spent time walking the streets of Night City, the gameplay would have to be downright horrible for it to matter the least bit.

I mean... Just imagine being able to talk to Alt Cunningham, to hear Johnny Silverhand jam and sing, to hack into Rache Bartmoss's deck assuming he's still breathing, to go on an op with Morgan Blackhand, or to work for Saburo Arasaka. Who cares if the graphics aren't "mindblowing", or if the UI is a mess, or if the controls suck, or if the engine feels sluggish? Style over substance, man.

That's assuming any of the iconics from Cyberpunk 2020 are in this iteration... Seeing Alt in the window in that teaser was promising, but after watching the conference with Mike Pondsmith, I'm guessing we're going to go through the asinine 2030's corporate Fallout wars timeline all the way to 2077, thus pretty much ensuring all the 2020's big names are dead and buried. That also means not all the iconic corporations will be there, and there was also talk about bringing in a lot of new and improved cyberware.

Sigh... I just wish they don't ruin it by changing it too much. Cyberpunk 2020 is what worked and still works. 203X isn't. That was a mistake and a failure. Should've just forgotten about all of that crap.

Well if you read the whole thread I have already responded to your first complaint, however I stand by my comment about the trailer if you choose to read it. I have since learned more about the game, and am excited as well, however from the trailer one could think they were shedding much of the RPG legacy in favor of an fps complete with some sort of 'bullet-time' mechanic. And I have to disagree that a standard fps must be a tyoical military shooter. A standard fps can be any game that focuses on fps style gameplay, regardless of setting. Games can start to depart from the genre in many different ways, be they story, character progression, extra-powers...whatever. Glad to see though, that it seems this game will not be that.

Even if a lot of the old corps don't make survive the 57 years to 2077, I don't think we'll have to worry about them having the style down. We know that Afterlife is apparently still around, too. And just this singular concept art lets me know that they have a good sense of the style that they've got to keep alive.

You're trying to get way, way too much gameplay information out of the teaser. The teaser was pure style, littered with nods to the Cyberpunk name. If you're really curious about gameplay, have a read:
http://www.cyberpunk.net/blog/mechanisms/ talks a bit about how they're facing the problem of incorporating CP2020's numerous, numerous mechanics into a video game, and the other blogs also touch on gameplay yet. But in all honesty, we don't have much solid information just yet, so besides what's written here, everything is assumption. Definitely make no assumption about gameplay based on the teaser though, none.

Style ALWAYS over substance. Totally. Thing with my GM is that he wasn't merely guiding our game... our CP2020 GM was the enemy. He was out to kill us, and we were doomed to die, so we generally never got the chance to become overpowered (except for this one time where I got to play a full military borg who'd gone into complete cyberpsychosis, which was fun as all hell), and we always faced overwhelming odds, where fleeing was usually the advanced maneuver of choice. He treated Cyberpunk like Call of Cthulhu, where the player characters were destined to face an ugly end.

On the other hand, we got to have a whole lot of fun with the character creation! A long game session typically saw each of the three or four players (including me) go through at least two, if not 3 PCs.

They look believable and practical that they could fold into the upper part of her arms, what do you find awful in them? Just don't tell me because they are not exagerrated and not her complete lower arms transformed into two axes.
