[Movies] What are some FUN, if cheesy, 80's and 90's movies?

I suppose I'm just going through some kind of "phase", but it seems like movies today are just depressing as shit. I just want to watch some upbeat, fun movies! I talking things like "Big Trouble in Little China", "Commando", stuff like that. I want to stay away from anything that takes itself too seriously, or at least anything attempting to be "dark and gritty".

It doesn't have to be just Action movies either, though. For example, Sleepless in Seattle was on the other day and, as much as I generally hate chick-flicks, I honestly didn't mind watching it. As well, "Copland" was actually genuinely good, I though, even being a tad heavier than most stuff at the time.

I don't know what it is, but there's something about more recent movies that hasn't been grabbing me. Maybe I'm just nostalgic, or maybe the movies just honestly don't feel as unique -- whatever the case, any suggestions are welcome!

    "When Harry Met Sally"
    "Goonies"

There's more, but I'll need to look up the names...

    The Jerk
    Uncle Buck
    The Great Outdoors
    Planes, Trains and Automobiles
    National Lampoon's Vacation
    Stripes

Honestly, just type "80's comedies" into google.

Oh man, I love that movie so much. Although, it does have a "dark" element to it, what with the dark overlords and all. And that 80s cgi is pretty scary in some parts.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series
    Hackers
    Beverly Hills Cop series
    Police Academy
Edit - Tango and Cash. And Oscar, featuring Sylvester Stallone like you haven't really seen him before.

I'm sure I'll think of more. Big Trouble in Little China was actually what I came to this thread to post after seeing the title, so glad you're already aware of its awesomeness :-)

    Ladyhawke
Evil Dead 2 & Army of Darkness
    Dead Alive
    Bad Taste

Luckily, I've seen a fair number of movies already mentioned here, and excited about the rest! Although, I wasn't quite as taken by The Goonies... then again, it was quite a while back when I saw it, so might give it a try.

Also, a friend mentioned "The Warriors", anyone know if that's any good?

It's a matter of context. Going back and watching most movies years later they tend to loose their luster. Once they are removed from the context of their time period and age group they stop seeming so awesome. I used to LOOOOOVE He-man when I was a little kid. Now it just seems like an ambiguously gay adventure. Seriously....watch an episode...its really really bad. Anyways, most of these movies are going to be things we saw as kids and loved at the time, when we watch them now we are just remembering the fun we had back then, not so much enjoying it for what it is.

That is kind of what defines a really great movie, it stays good no matter what the context.
