In Depth HTPC Software Guide// Source

Has anyone here come across a site that gives solid info on the software side of htpc's:

Id really like to go about making one but I really want my end result to be polished i.e.:
streamlined interface for seamless transition from live tv to steambox and/or emulator to stored media

I'm not sure I understand the question. An HTPC is just a computer with specific hardware to make it small, low power, and cheapish.

Put an icon on the desktop for Netflix. An icon for emulators, and an icon for Steam.

Okay I see what youre getting at. I suppose in my head I thought there must be some programs or a means out there that make navigating content feel more like browsing through tv listings rather than a cursor panning along a 60" display
