Department of homeland security saying to uninstall java from all devices?

I was drving home and heard on the radio the department of homeland security was asking people to remove java from their devices because of a security breach?? The news said this was issued about three hours ago. Has anyone heard anything about this? What could this mean? ideas?

as the article says, java has been a security risk for a long time, running around with it enabled on sites you don't trust was always a bad idea.
DHS just finally decided to do something official about it imo.

java is and always was a very risky program.
its really nice to slow down the operating system and browsers, too.

a lot of online infections by browser are done with the help of java so its very good to disable it.
most people don't even need java.

Don't let the name noscript fool you, it allows you to block all forms of active content including java/flash etc.

I don't use Firefox, but I have anti-script addons for Chrome.

I made sure my parents are running theirs. My dad is convinced that all's he need is his anti-virus and CCleaner.

That reasoning isn't going to keep you protected as much as using NoScript correctly would, in my opinion. If dodgy script is injected in to a site you consider safe (and it happens) then you'll pick something nasty up. You will reduce the chances by not visiting dodgy sites, but a safe site will eventually have something go through in an ad or someones signature. Any site that is popular has the potential to be hijacked.

They don't have any relation beyond the superficial. The syntax of both is C-like and they follow similar naming conventions for stuff, but that's where it ends.
