Imho, Call of Duty is a linear shooter. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but look at the differences.

Metro ain't as open-world as Stalker, but it's still not linear, I wouldn't say. There is a story, but the world is big, there's surprises hidden in it, and the game pretty much wants you to explore it to find those surprises (or else in most cases you run out of ammo or never get enough dough for a decent upgrade etc).

Yeah, it's easy, but that doesn't mean it's linear either. It just means that you explore and complete the story faster.
