I just tried searching for mine via Wireless, didn't find it. Then I searched via Nintendo WFC and it found it right away. You'll have have to have had to have set up WFC before via the website, though.

Unless they up and decided to make things wildly more complicated for BW2, then no. You might be thinking of the Global Link, which has nothing to do with Mystery Gift.
