Not popular enough to get much attention, frankly. Furries were obscure and ignored until the fandom got popular enough to attract some media attention, particularly for sexualized aspects of the fandom including an MTV show that focused on unusual fetishes doing a full hour on some of the sexual fetishes that various furries get into. So there you go. But furries I think still remain in that "last place" of the fandoms when it comes to receiving abuse.

Long ago it was the comic nerds, then the trekkies, then the Star Wars freaks, and so on.

Hating someone for liking something is among the stupidest things one can do IMO. You can't control what you like any more than you can control gravity. What you can do is ask them to stop hating people for not liking the same thing, or waving their preferences in your face. Whatever the next popular thing that breaks some sort of gender role for males. Remember, women are largely spared from these things because it's far more acceptable for women to be into things that could be meant for kids and such. We men have to be manly and stuff. Drink beer. Watch football. Brag about sexual conquests and stuff. Oh and be violent. Can't forget about that.

Yeah, different author, different characters. There isn't supposed to be any direct sequel.
