It was gold you didn't have. Anyways, you should have at least had some sort of assurance. Like 1k gold per 10 levels and 2k gold at 90 or something similar. You should try to avoid "pay when we get there" promises without having some sort of initial payment so you at least gain something from it.

You should have atleast ask for 5k beforehand and you won't be able to report him or you could try to tell them he does account shareing.
