I left wow as soon as I hit level 85 and haven't really played since due to financial reasons. That has been resolved (and I hope it stays that way). I jumped back in to play my mage and I'm totally lost. I tried reading a few guides, but they aren't very clear. Could someone please explain the "in" spec and rotation? I'm a combat vet with a brain injury but I'm not completely stupid! I appreciate any help offered!

To be honest you should just level and try all three, see what you like. It seems like Blizzard is trying to make them all pretty even anyway.

yea its probably nostalgia
The same goes for the talent specs - the idea is there's no right or wrong answers for every situation. Blizzard are trying to make it so that talents are dead easy to change, and you can (if you want) change them for each fight. Try them all out and see what works for you.
Actually .. you can more or less say the same for glyphs.
Noxxic.com is a useful resource, also elitistjerks and even in game if you access your spellbook their should a be "what has changed?" tab or a "core abilities" tab which gives the basics of the spec.
Worst sites atm. Noxxic sims are just plain wrong, and EJ has been dead since MoP came out and there's nothing interesting there anymore (for mages). Icyveins.com can be a good starter for a very basic overview of specs and gearing.
Everything any mage needs is right there, is this forums, and in stickied topics =).
