    Contemplating upgrading PC's

So my wife and I haven't updated our PC's in a good bit. Right now we don't play a whole lot of anything that pushes them, but there's always the chance... and I like to have new stuff. :P Doesn't mean we really need it though. Sooo... coming here for options/ideas on what to do. Incoming info/links on our PC's info!

    Mine

CPU i7 920, CPU Cooler Noctua NH-U12P HSF, HDD WD Caviar Black 640GB, Mobo Asus P6T Deluxe, RAM OCZ XMP 1600 6GB (3 x 2GB), GPU EVGA GTX 285 SC, Case Antec 1200, PSU Corsair 850W, Monitors are an Asus VK266H 25.5" and AOC 20".

    Wives
CPU i7 870, CPU Cooler CM Hyper 212 EVO, HDD WD Caviar Black 640GB, Mobo Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3, RAM Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1333? I think, GPU EVGA GTX 460, Case CM 690 Nvidia Edition, PSU Thermaltake Black Widow 850W, Monitor is an Asus VH226H.

    Thanks for any pointers!

Actually, those two are still fine. I wouldn't do anything right now.
The only thing you might want to consider now is getting an SSD.

The golden rule of upgrading: Only upgrade, if you really need it, not when you think you might be needing it in the future.
Why do something simple, when there is a complicated way?
    Ryzen 7 2700X | BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 | 16GB DDR4-3200 | MSI X470 Gaming Pro | MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G | 500GB / 750GB Crucial SSD
Fractal Define C | LG 32UK550 | Das Model S Professional Silent | CM Storm Xornet

I would get SSD for both and then just wait and upgrade GPUs later on when you feel like they are lacking.

My brother just upgraded his computer (mainly because he effectively 'had' to) but he was using a 285 or 290 as well. It's a beast card, but also old tech. It'd difficult to upgrade cards like that, because you are pigeonholed into continually getting top end cards, even if you don't need it. I think the 2xx series is still DX10? Stuff like that. Very nice mid range cards are just easier to deal with.

The 285 is about equal with the 460 in terms of performance. It gets easily beaten by a 650Ti or 7850 now.

Yeah. The SSD's were a definite thought going through my head. The P6T Deluxe boot times are HORRIBLE. Flat out the worst I've ever experienced. :P So I usually leave it in sleep mode. If we upgrade video cards it'd probably be to the 660 Ti. Just waiting it out... the 7xx series should be here this year, yeah?

Yes, summer to early autumn from what I've heard.

50$ the first batch of 780's will be virtually impossible to buy! Any takers?

I'm actually glad they aren't rushing the cards out this time around. A new gpu in september sounds good to me.
