    [Movie] Skyfall

Didn't see the thread for this so I figured I'd make it. What are your thoughts on it? I personally loved it, especially when Moneypenny addresses Bond. Although, when M died, I admit, I shed a single tear for her. She was amazing. Was kinda strange having the gay undertone when bond was captured. The fight scenes were well done I thought albeit dragged out at times.

I thought Bond and the villains interaction scenes were amazing. Javier Bardem was very good. And the movie overall was excellent and honestly one of the best Bond's I have ever seen in my life

Personally I liked Casino Royal much better but skyfall was better than Quantum of Solace.

I loved the film and especially the villain, but I wished there had been more of him in it. Such a well played character.

I can also imagine attacking such a world, because they would never see it coming.

Thought it was an AMAZING movie, but casino royale was better overall. Felt more "bond" than Skyfall. Skyfall felt like it coulda been a movie in the Bourne series, especially towards the end.

It was decent for a film, mediocre for a Bond film. They really need to get better writers so they can have a better plot set up. The very nice special effects aside as well as a bunch of nice touches here and there (I almost cheered in the middle when they brought back the original 007 theme as he escaped the city), and the mains were amazing...... the Bond girl was just, terrible. Astoundingly terrible, for whichever one could be considered the Bond girl in that movie. There were plot holes everywhere I looked. They went well over the lines of realism in a number of areas, which while normally appreciable was far overdone. It stalled 2-3 times in the middle. There were far too many facepalm moments, like three men breaking into a guarded government building without any alarms being triggered at all.

I would give it a 4/10 overall. Better than Quantum of Solace.

The homo-erotic scene was really well done. Wish they had more of Bardem though. I'd say it was about as good as Casino Royale, though I'd need to see Skyfall again. Definitely better than Quantum of Solace.

There were some obvious discontinuities though, like when the helicopter was landing at Skyfall, suddenly it was pitch black outside?? I also thought M's death scene as well as Bardem's death scene could have been better, but overall, good film.

Admittedly the entire night/day cycle in most films are very sketch. One scene its day, next is evening, then night. Happens a lot, but it does bug me.

Now that theres a thread I can spew my ideas all over the place.

So did anyone else find the scene where bardem's character pulls out his dentures and shows what the cyanide did to his mouth a bit too emphasized and over-played? They really took time into showing his teeth and the damage for a scene that didnt really need showing, the viewer already understood the reasons why he had the vendetta for M/MI6.
After watching that scene it left me playing with the idea that he he could be the new Jaws in the rehash of the series. And his 'death' at the end wasn't exactly an absolute answer either, It seemed to me like they never confirmed his death and kinda left it up in the air.

Not to mention Jaws wasnt very well known in the old movies, in that he didnt have a backstory. Since they are running a new story with modern ties, I think a modern jaws would be a great character to look into, and Bardem could easily make that character shine.

    Thoughts?

    It was great but...different.

Absolutely nothing like the tried and true Bond formula.

Eh, Jaws was never known for his intellect though and this guy, though very crazy, was smart.

One thing they did seem to blow out of the water near the end was the old speculation that the "Bond" name was just passed down from whoever happened to be 007 at that time. Overall I enjoyed the movie a ton, but I want to know what happened to his parents.

Honestly I think I just grew out of Bond movies. Really have not enjoyed any since Roger Moore. He was the last "007" I actually liked.

I was never a big James Bond fan. The movies were too over the top for me. Every film there just seems to be a checklist they have to go through:

    - Sex with Girl
    - Martini
    - "Bond. James Bond".

Etc. Etc. It kind of becomes not if those things happen but how. However, Skyfall was good but not great. I like how Daniel Craig's does the fighting part of bond but to me he lacks a bit of personality that other Bonds had. I also enjoyed the meaning behind Skyfall and the villain was really good. As I noted in the trailer thread the trailer ruined the film a bit for me specifically the train and end helicopter scenes. I also didn't realize had gotten shot at the end until she was in the tunnel.

Casino Royale was much better. Skyfall had the potential to be awesome, but I ended up finding the villain shallow: the story suffered as a result, and the movie overall felt like there was no interesting climax or even twist in general.

Great performance by Daniel Craig though.

Not a bad film. Explores the depth of Bond's origin and humanity far more than even Lazenby's bond or Royale. Silva is probably the best Bond "villain" in years and I have to quote that because Bardem ably comes across as sinister, charismatic, sympathetic and terrifying all at the same time. It's very difficult to simply brand him as your stereotypical paint by the numbers villain when half of the time, you can't help but at least understand where he's coming from.

Also liked how there wasn't really a Bond girl this time around because the focus was on the relationship between Bond and M. In a sense, M IS Bond's girl but as a mother and parental figure. I think this is especially noted when Bond scoffs at his ludicrously old fashioned sense of loyalty to England but loses his cool facade and reveals the same emotion as he did with Vesper's death in Royale when M dies. He only ever fought for two things, and the thing he was most terrified to lose, he'd lost.

I'd need to see this again but I'd say this is probably a top five Bond film. To be fair, that probably isn't really saying much considering all of Brosnan and Dalton's work is trash and most of Moore's stuff is painfully bad.

See that is exactly what I thought but continuity seems like it'd be an issue.

You know... I used to really like the old Bond movies a lot when I was a kid... now though they feel really bad and difficult to watch. I think a lot of it is how perceptions of things has changed throughout the years. I mean, in the old ones he's pretty rough with the "bond girls" but not in a good way rough.

Perception probably had a lot to do with it. Moore and Connery's "style" seemed more, well, "authentic" to me. The ones that followed seemed "faker" somehow. Probably just me.

Don't remember, does he still do the "shaken, not stirred" line?
