Pistons that extend on both sides?

So I just edited a glowstone texture in the lb photo realism 256 pack because I thought it was ugly as hell. I told my friend that I changed it and he wanted it also. So I sent him it and he replaced it, we log in and he looks in front of him and BOOM he has pistons that extend on both sides.

I changed texture pack and even looked at it myself to make sure it was happening and it is. They're also fully functional, can anyone explain how this has happened or how to fix it?

Edit: We've discovered that it only does this if you place the piston next to an active circuit, but this has never happened before, is this a common bug? They've also decided to extend on diagonals like this.
