Testing intelligence of crows, they had a hooked tool they had to use to get the food out. The male crow stole the tool, so the female made another.

Watching that video, at like the 3 minute timeframe... that was freaking me out a little. Never considered myself afraid of the water or anything, but with those rays all over the place, all the bubbles, the weird lighting; that was a little freaky.

This is awesome. I love finding problem-solving behavior in animals that I wouldn't normally expect it from.
[22:14] <+Lia> And why is Ruken molesting trees?
[22:14] <@Rukentuts> Because they give me wood.
    [22:14] <+Lia> ...
    [22:14] <+Lia> worst pun ever
    [22:15] * Rukentuts boughs.

There's some interesting tests around, they can teach a variety of animals how to use a tool, but ravens are one of the few (if not only) that understands using a tool to get a tool to use to get what they want.

I just thought it was hilarious that the one raven stole the tool (recognizing that the tool was the means to control the food supply) and the other made a new one to thwart his dastardly plan.

I'll just leave this here. The last one, the dolphin, particularly surprised me.

If one driver had just hit the gas and ran them over with everyone watching, that would have been soooooo fucking funny.

    Terrible, but funny.

Kinda like that Critical Mass rally where all those cyclists got run down by a guy with road rage.

But yeah, the thing to remember is that animals have different intelligences from ours.

Yeah, but no. That really happens. We have that here too at the NE/IA border.
Reason... The Central Flyways. Chicago is right in the middle of one. And the amount of geese that cross our country with that flyway twice a year is HUGE..
30 miles from me is the DeSoto Bend Wildlife Refuge. One has to see that, to believe it.... Between 0.5 mio and close to 1 mio Geese taking a stop there on their road from south to north, and back. They invade the nearby cities and towns as well. I haven't seen that exact scenary before. But I've seen small flocks of them crossing the roads like that in their typical manner times and again.
Just a fraction.. since they are everywhere in the refuge.

Smartness? Really? What about intelligence? Quite ironic if you ask me.

If you are interested in such things, i'd sugfgest to see what are capable of killer whales and ravens.
