Planning on building my second computer - looking for some opinions

    Hi all,

Long time reader of MMO Champion, first time poster on the forums.

I'm planning on building a new computer. I got everything together on a Newegg wishlist here.

Wishlist ID: 21520245 (Apparently I can't post links here, otherwise I would.) Just look at public wishlists and replace the id number with that one.

I'm looking for some opinions from people here before I actually purchase anything here.

I'm using it mostly for games (Blizz games mostly). I am going to make the SSD my boot drive and I'm bringing over a 1TB drive and a 500gb drive from my old setup.

    Any thoughts?

(PS, not sure if this post is okay or not. I was going to put in the gaming rig thread, but that seems to be more about showing off - not looking for help.)

That ID number isn't working for me. What's the title of your list?

You can remove $100 from your motherboard and $60 from your PSU choices and put them on a better GPU.

Thanks for posting the link. Any particular reason? My old computer i built had an expensive gpu and i dont think i really need anything crazy to run high settings on these games so i decided to go cheaper. Everything matches up right?

Mostly just the reason that the money spent on those parts will give you no performance increase at all, so if you don't want a better GPU you might as well keep the money in your wallet.

A I5 3570K with a Radeon 7770 will pull about 250W at full load, even a 500W PSU would be overkill for that.

Same performance, much lower price. 620W PSU is very much overkill but it was incredibly cheap anyway.

That sounds good. I might consider your choices instead. I never knew about this part picker site. That's really helpful, but I'm not sure I want to get parts from all over the place.

Now what are your opinions on Windows 7 or 8? I'm leaning towards 7.

I've hated Windows 8 up until recently. right now it's only $15 (until Jan 31st). It is a good OS, faster, and many improvements. It's biggest downside is the actual UI, however I just installed 8 on the laptop I'm writing this post from, and I used a Start Menu modifier to make it pretty much perform like 7 aesthetically. It pretty much makes me have no reason to buy 7 again.

Also, seconded. Get a cheaper board, a cheaper PSU, and cheaper ram. You probably don't need 16gb. You can easily shave 200-300 bucks off this system at no loss. Also, get 1600 ram, there's no real reason to get 1866
