    Scopolamine, World's Scariest Drug

Holy crap, I just came across this here

I can't believe that something like this even exists... how comes that the world isnt ruled by this drug already?! I can't even fathom the consequences if you use it on politicians and stuff... or super rich people...

I remember watching a documentary about this and it was pretty scary.

I think there are a lot of plants like this in Brazil and a lot of people, in clubs, etc, have that drug and woke up in the next day without all of their name in they had in their credit card, etc.

It was even used to get organs from people and shit. Scary drug.

And the guy mentions the guy that got robbed in the hotel, I think he got rapped and said yes because of the drug too, I think, can't remember that well.

That's the one that effectively puts people in a trance like state isn't it? Puts the people in a half conscious/unconscious. think I saw this video a few months ago if it is, pretty scary what some people have done to others with it such as robbing them "blind" with the victims aid among many other things.

Yeah. You lose all of your free will under the influence of this drug ... while still being 100% conscious and normal. You talk, you answer, you ask questions... but you are basically a slave to anyone who commands you something.

Walk up to a rich person, tell him to withdraw all his money and give it to you. A few moments later he will pass out and wont remember a thing. Fuck O.o

didnt the CIA play around with this during the cold war?

Isn't that the old "truth serum" that was a major plot device in old fashioned pulp fiction? But yeah it actually just fucks you up.

Yup... they tried using it as a truth drug, but abandoned it quite fast because the drugged person hallucinates sometimes and therefore doesn't always tell the truth.

Also, you have to constantly refresh the drug if you want it to work for longer than, lets say, 30 minutes. You can easily OD and kill someone with it.

What amazes me the most (or rather scares) is how easy you can get it. It grows on the freaking streets of Bogota... you just have to pick it up and alter it chemically.

It's not that scary. It's one of many muscaranic antagonists available, and they all basically work by blocking some nerves from working at full efficiency/capacity. High doses will make you delirious and maybe more susceptible to hypnosis and interrogation, but that's true of nearly any drug that blocks nerve function (i.e. alcohol).

So don't worry too much about some crazy jungle plant making you a slave. Besides, if you know anyone with asthma, you probably know someone taking a muscarinic antagonist pretty regularly. Once you see them marching around like a zombie slave, then you should be worried

But that's actually what people are describing. You walk into your own house like a zombie and you hand out everything you own. I know of rape drugs, roofies and shit like that, but none of those "regular drugs" have this kind of effect. Most of the time you either pass out or start acting so delirious that somebody always notices that something is terribly wrong with you.

    Not so with Scopolamine.

Also, after watching it for a 2nd time I realized that I missed the part where they talk about the price of the drug. It's almost for free if you earn Euros or Dollars.

    Not so with Scopolamine.
I think you misunderstood my asthma reference. The point of it was, a lot of people are taking muscaranic antagonists daily, but they aren't constantly being taken advantage of or being turned into zombies. More than likely, the cases of people becoming these slaves were actually a combination of things:

    1. scopolamine lowering inhibitions and raising susceptibility to hypnosis
    2. a person with already high susceptibility to hypnosis takes scopolamine
    3. the person administrating scopolamine is naturally charismatic and domineering
    4. persuasion
    5. delusion of being zombie slave

If you've drank alcohol before, you know how it feels to have your inhibitions lowered. You've probably had friends dare you to do stupid things when you're drunk. If you were sober, you would have never done those things. But since you're drunk and your inhibitions are lower, you're more susceptible to their suggestions.

People can be convinced into thinking anything. Hypnosis usually isn't that mindless trance that movies portray it to be. The hypnotized person is usually fully aware (as this movie mentions), coherent, cognitive, talking, etc. Hypnosis is more like being delusional, meaning, you have this fixed idea you strongly believe to be true, and will not accept any other argument. One example of being delusional is thinking your neighbors are Martians. Despite all the evidence to the contrary, your mind "makes it real," and you will believe it endlessly.

If someone hypnotizes you (through persuasion and some inhibition-lowering drugs), and they convince you that you're actually a zombie slave, your mind can take the concept and run with it. The only "magical" part of the process is just how profoundly real the mind can make things. It may sound crazy, but in a way, it is. A lot of mentally ill people have delusions.
I know that you are reading this, and I approve.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense but... uhm... I didn't say it's scary because I don't know how it works, but rather because I am scared that it works so freaking well.

Yeah, it's pretty much like being drunk, just that you are... well.. not drunk. As long as you act out of order, nobody can take advantage of you in form of, lets say, forcing you to go to the bank and withdraw all your money.

Just a fingertip of that is enough and you can kiss your free will goodbye. I have to drink a lot to achieve that with alcohol and nobody can make me drink alcohol against my will.

I've taken almost every street drug imaginable and this doesn't scare me. Sure the effects are pretty terrible but you can do this with Roofies (Rohypnol) and it's much safer. It's true this drug has no recreational effect. High doses of LSD, mescaline, etc...scare me much more. Have you ever tried reasoning with someone who is tripping face? Add in some alcohol and cocaine and you have a potential recipe for disaster. To me, scary doesn't mean it's potent or makes me zombie. Scary is LOSING control, not being controlled. Scary is addiction.

The US doesn't need this drug to brainwash us, we have the media.

Try Ether, that's drunk without being drunk.

This drug is impractical because it's so lethal.

And this is yet another example of why I hold that while most drugs should be legalized for the short sighted that want to destroy themselves using them, some drugs need to be illegal with VERY harsh penalties for illegal possesion and misuse enforced.

Yea, smokin' that J before bed so I sleep through the night is destroying the fuck outta me right now. Another thirty or forty years of it and I might have to do...I dunno, the same thing? Woe unto me.

Ahem. Glad that doesn't grow around here. Whoo.

    You should nuke science.

Whatever the plant can do (and I am highly skeptical of the zombie claims), science can (or will) do better. Science can already remote control rats' behavior by implanting computer chips in their brains. Won't be long till we get to humans

    That IS dangerous.

Though how do we know the government hasn't been spiking our tapwater with it for the decades?

If nature can make it occur, we can synthesize it. And make it "better".
