    Achievement points used as currency?

Title says it all. Could this be the new announcement or part of it? This could be extremely influential if used right and have trade chat busy for achievement groups. The bigger question would probably be what could one buy with them that would have not just the achievement hunters willing to join such groups? Post your ideas!! Besides the usual pets, mounts and titles.

Q: Achievement points - will we get t9 epics for these at some point?
A: No. Achievement points will never be for anything in game. all the rewards are purely cosmetic at this point like mounts and titles. it's to recognize your acomplishements, not create new ones.

They are meaningless points, they do not now, nor will they ever, mean anything or be used for anything.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

Achievement points is not a value, it's a meter. It's like you would like to buy things with your raid progression.

That idea will be cool, specially if that currency can be used with all your games registered in your battle.net account (Diablo 3, Wow and SC2)

Rewards for that would be some armor sets for transmorg use (something like the rewards of the challenge gold mode), visually modified units for SC2 (like the thor and the ultralix from the collector edition) or wings for your characters in Diablo 3

Thx you for this awesome response. Blizzard could change anything at will and perhaps someday we WILL be able to use the points in some form or manner. Great idea man.

They also said there would never be flying mounts in the game and the old world couldn't be travelled over with them. Guess what.

Don't take Blizzards word for it

just wanna point out that blizz has changed their minds on things that they've stated will never happen. Such as PvE to PvP realm transfers or having ally and horde on the same pvp realm.

Well, he was talking about T9 armor as rewards, but if the rewards of the "achivment points" remains at something like a vanity thing without giving an adventage in gameplay it will be fine (like visual transmorg items, mounts, pets, tabards, items to change your apparence for some time, or even tittles)

Thats really not possible. Someone already said it, they are not points but a meter. You can't regain them if you have spent them. How is that supposed to work ? They bring out something, lets say transmog gear to buy with achievement points. So you buy a full set for 10k points. Next expansion they bring out a new set and you will never be able to buy it since you spent all your points and can never get them back.

Please show me where they said this? because i have never seen them say something like that. Also "The old world couldn't be travelled over with them". That bit is right. You couldn't travel over the old world with them because it wasn't made for it. That is why they remade it and you can fly over the new world.

Gw2 is somewhat doing this, but it works in that instance because there are achievements that are repeatable so you can't screw yourself over buying things and not having a chance at other things. Instead of achi pts as currency, I think it'd be nice to have more achievements about getting achievement milestones. Sort of how there's ones for getting a certain number of pet battle achi points, expand that to other categories.

Say, if you love to raid and have 250 pts in the raiding part, you get a neat cosmetic thing raid related. Like a lil' Alexstraza pet that they teased us with and never gave. Or if you love to pvp you get 300 in the pvp area and get a skull helm thing that works on any armor type. It would be nice because if you love a certain style of play you might already have the points for it and may give a little extra incentive to work on other areas.

    What announcement?

I've always wanted this to happen, like reaching certain thresholds with Achievement points rewarding you with Companions or Mounts.

The problem with using achievement points as currency is that there is a finite number of them. Thus, if you blow all your points on item A, when Blizzard rolls out item B in patch 5.whatever, and you really want item B, more than you wanted item A, you will not be able to get the points necessary to buy item B. Ever.

The purpose of achievement points is to condense the achievements of a character into a single number that can easily be compared to other people. This encourages friendly competition. It's like a high score. It was never supposed to be a currency.

I could swear I remember Bliz saying before they added them that there would be a vendor that would sell you stuff based on your points, guess they dropped that idea.

Personally I think it would be cool to have a vendor that would sell you stuff based on how many points you have, sort of like a quartermaster. Since you pretty much get an achievement for every little thing in the game I think it would be an interesting way to get more people into doing all the little extra stuff for points for some cosmetic upgrades.
