People have been complaining about making the night darker since 2004.
I like the idea, but I also liked the way the world looked lit by a full moon.
The funny thing is, I've heard people complaining about the night so long I thought people were mistaken that there was a change. It seemed an issue of people "hearing" it was changed from other people and they started mis remembering. But now I've finally seen a series of photos that show the older night effect, and while it was subtle, it was better, and I want it back.
When was this changed?
I wonder how easy of a fix it could be as well, with how delicately tweaked the lighting is in multiple areas in every single zone to look a certain way, it would be nice if this is a universal setting they can tweak. If it ends up with them having to go through every single zone to re-balance the look of the lighting, I don't think it's going to happen.

Ohh my gosh, yes! Those memories...
Would be cool if there were some Q that could be done only during night/day.
Or pets catchable only during some time periods. And many more.

I support this thread.
I didn't realize that but yeah, way back when night used to be night. Now it's just day lighting with a night time skybox. Man I wish they'd bring that back.
2014 Gamergate: "If you want games without hyper sexualized female characters and representation, then learn to code!"
2023: "What's with all these massively successful games with ugly (realistic) women? How could this have happened?!"
Do want the night time darkness back.
Never understood people who didn't.
Okay, so you can only play in the middle of the night? Fine. But why would you want to play in some weird, immersion-breaking, boring, ugly pseudo-night like we currently have?
The night has so much potential in a game. All the changing lights, the shadows, the noises, the starry skies, the change of music, the creatures changing their behaviour, etc. I really don't see why more developers don't use it, or at least provide players with an option for it. Every RPG is always considered ten times better simply for emphasising these things.
It really wasn't that much darker though. Tons of people made threads going back to the first year of release asking for actual dark nights complaining that it looked only slightly darker, which surprised me that Blizzard made it even brighter and I really want to know when they did it because I never noticed it until someone pointed it out to me. I always assumed this was just carried over from those old threads and people were just wrong about the night being darker in vanilla.
Duskwood in Alpha wow almost made you require a torch to see by, and you can still find isolated areas in the game that are super dim, like the cemetery area in Duskwood or the burning vineyard by Northshire Abbey. I would like to see it that dark myself in places, but I also liked the old full moon effect.

I want this back soooo bad, cities would be really awesome like this!
"I hated hating Garrosh before it was cool."
FOR THE HORDE!!!
I don't understand, there is already a Day-Night shift within wow. Either that only happens to me, or I'm just missing something. I'm very sure when I login at night , there is night ingame as well, and viceversa in the morning.
If you want darker nights, just set up brightness / saturation / color / quality and so on, for your needs.
The change at the moment is so subtle that really the only difference is the skybox having stars come out, while the land itself looks lit by almost the same light as the sun, there is a subtle shift in color, but it used to be more noticeable and looked more dim in places. This is what it used to look like.

Oh hell yes. I like it when it is actually dark, when nighttime changes something rather than being a decorative change to blueish lighting instead of yellowish. I rememeber the Witcher 1 - when you descended into some cave or crypt, it was actually pitch black dark and you had to either use a torch, light things up with spells or drink the catseye elixir.
I would love a better night time, but its also has to be playable in.
I don't always hunt things, But when I do, It's because they're things & I'm a Bear.
Any improvement to the immersion is big yes!
