I thought the psychiatrist was the actual doctor and the psychologist was the "I read a book once," type.

They are, they go to med school just like surgeons, medical Doctors and dentists, but it considered the least stressful medical field. A Psychiatrist is unlikely to have to deal with a life or death emergency.

They are still medical Doctors, but on the same level as Dentists really, pretty unlikely to have to deal with death on a daily basis.

They might have to deal with suicidal people or just batshit crazy folks though. They got an important job to do imo(see the gun debate in the US for example), good psychiatric care is important for any sociaty.

It is, vital work indeed, but it is also considered "low on the totem pole" medical wise. Basically the more lives you save or the more complicated your surgery the more respected the field. A Cardio surgeon would likely be paid a lot more than a Psychiatrist or dentist, and would be respected more by society as a whole.

Yeah I know what you mean. It's a shame in some ways, but not unsuprising, the psychiatric field is gaining more and more acceptance though which is good.

I think the reason it has so little respect is the amount of Psychology students. Psychologists study human behaviour, Psychiatrists go to med school then specialise. Chances are that quack giving the field a bad name is a Psychologist, much less able to treat you than a Psychiatrist.

While it becomes useful for internet discussions on MMO-C, I can think of no logical reason for countries to publish reports meant for internal use in a non-native language.

Not long ago I read a report from Sweden highlighting problems they faced in their national health care system. It was in English and I can think of no good reason for that... aside from humblebragging

Most probably because many of those reports are filled by independent, external committees or consultants that in many case are not even based in the country in question. This is done in order to provide the internal public an unbiased analysis of their system.

There is a lack of Doctors, we get people from all over Europe coming here to work as doctors(some have to compliment their exams from their home country), as well as elswhere in the world, because we activly try to recruit since there is a domestic shortage. The last 15 years we have on average "imported" around 330 more doctors per year then what we have "exported", you are arguing against basic supply and demand, one of the core fundations of capitalism.

There was a documentary about why our doctors keep leaving after they finish university. They said USA, Australia and New Zeland "leech" doctors from the UK and Scandinavia by offering better pay and better conditions. This is one of the many reasons there is a shortage.

They are working on increasing the amount of qualified doctors by
A. recruiting from abroad
B. increase the number of open university spots
C. Get swedes to educate themselves abroad and come back home.

All these 3 methods work well for us but there is still a shortage atm.

Knowing that you will have a job if you push over the university doesn't make you study harder or push yourself. That is the whole point of the detrimental impact of lack of competition in Social countries.

Passing exams = job is bad design.

Since the inflation in Denmark has been very stable for a long time now, agreements regarding the real wage is able to be made over a long time span.

Because of the existence of unions, according to the theory of trade unions and unemployment, and because of the Danish economy being based on market mechanisms as well as the labour market being characterised as a imperfect competition with imperfect information, we can now derrive that the Danish labour market will in fact have unemployment...

He thought so because i said that was the case for me. Studying Medicine secures you a job somewhere according to the KBU lottery. I may be sent to the most deserted part of the country for a year but I'll have a job.
