    What is this crystal?

So guys, last year at some point, I went crystal hunting for a day out with my girlfriend, this place was full of Amethyst and stuff, and just as I was about to leave, I remember looking in the river one last time and seeing this big orange glowing thing, I picked it out, cleaned it up with vinegar and a toothbrush, got rid of most of the crap off it, but it never really occured to me that I don't even know what it is, it's bigger than a full grown mans clenched fist, kind of a milky color, ive got a picture but the quality isn't too great.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Wasnt sure how to describe it in a google search, maybe you guys can help.

EDIT: In that case, probably regular quartz.

If it's milky, it might be Milky Quartz:

If it's straight up like it looks in the picture, it's probably Rose Quartz (apparently Pink Quartz refers to the relatively clear crystal type):

May possibly be milky quartz, is it valuable?

Probably rose quartz, it's extremely common in the UK and usually found among Amethyst.

And no, quartz is not particulary valuable.

Are the edges rounded and 'soapy' feeling? Could be topaz.

Lick it! If its salty its halite, though unlikely given where you found it and it looks too rounded in places.

More likely to be quartz as others have said. If you have some orthoclase feldspar and some hardened steel/tungsten you could do a quick scrath test. Quartz scratches feldspar, but is scratched by the steel.

Though if you can identify the feldspar, you would not be asking about quartz.....nm....it looks like quartz in that pic in terms of crystal shape and habit, but its not a great pic.
