Putting new gaming pc together on budget

    Hi all,

Last week my old pc finally broke down after lasting a fair while under the circumstances.
Now I've been thinking of purchasing a new one, but as a student budget is everything :>

The only real requirements for the pc should be the following:

    * Playing WoW in medium - high settings for a longer duration of time. (heating was a problem with my last pc)
    * Streaming raids in 720p
    * Video rendering possibly

I looked at the stickies and some some suggestions, but my knowledge about pc hardware is fairly limited, meaning I'm not sure how strong the cpu etc should be too meet those requirements.
Hopefully some of you could help me out.

Max budget is ~750 euro or ~1000 US dollar.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Kind regards

Building it yourself or buying a premade one?

Are you doing a lot of video rendering? (And high quality one)
    And where you streaming b4?

To your first question: I don't mind either, I build my previous pc's without a problem, just had help like now which components would do the job for X requirements.

I'm not doing a lot of video rendering anymore these days, most were raid videos in 720p+ and movie trailer intro's.
I was streaming before, but not in high res.

Even though WoW does not really make use of more than 2-3 cores, when you are streaming (and also video editing) some more cores don't hurt. So i would suggest at least a quad core cpu (Intel i5/i7 or Amd FX-6xxx/FX-8xxx). While the i7 is out because of the budget, i5 or amd FX-8350 are within reach. Graphics card does not need to bee that powerful, something in the range of 150-200 Euro is way enough.
Why do something simple, when there is a complicated way?

this is just a very rough list a made quickly, but its roughly what you want. the hdd, case, dvd drive, os, etc... you gotta add in but alot of these parts are great bang-for-buck.

depending on the case and hard drive or ssd configuration you want, you can squeeze a better gpu into your budget possibly. most "name brand" PSUs will work for you as well, look into the 500-600 watt bronze rating range.

Will you be needing an OS if you build it yourself? Are they any parts that you would/could reuse like hard drives and optical drives?

This should handle the game on maxed if you decide to overclock the CPU to 4.2-4.4. You might wanna skip the samsung writer if yours is still intact and working fine.

If you still have the windows cd then you can add a 120-128 gb SSD in there. You can read reviews down below for a suitable SSD in your price range.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies!

I won't reuse anything from my old pc as most is fairly old. I would obt for a possible SSD as well. I still have my Windows 7 cd laying around so can use that.

    Thanks everyone!

This toward the high end of your budget but should be worth it. You could save a little money and get a cheaper case. But that's entirely up to you.

Theres no point going for a 660 when he can squeeze a 660ti for less price.

Hmm, Acnalogia.. where do you live?

Due to the fact you mentioned 750 euros before the dollar amount, it kinda gives me the idea you're not American (DUH!).

The same calculations don't work from US to Euro as most of these people are giving you.

We can probably assist you better if you tell us where you're from.

Before i make the stuff, what is it you have right now?
    Any parts i could "salvage"?

If you're unsure, make some detailed pictures please and post the links here so i know if i can use some of it to save costs on a new build

If your old rig was running windows 7 I wouldn't be writing everything off, could still have a good psu, disc drive, hard drives might even be worth salvaging just to get more performance out on the get go and update them a bit further down the line when you get the chance (or drop an ssd in now and use your old HDD for storage). Posting your old rig will certainly be useful so we can give you the best advice possible for your situation (example I have a perfectly good optical drive here from an 06 rig, still works and serves its purpose just fine, hell I threw the psu out that was still good I only got rid of it as it was no name trash that I wouldn't want to put on anything more expensive than a htpc).

I know what you guys mean, but I can't "take" out anything of my old rig as it was a university sponsored desktop. Now it's broken and I need to deliver the whole pc to the uni. I can't get a new one they said as my term is almost finished, so the "allowance" I got for putting a pc together would be something like 150 euro, which wouldn't be enough to get a new pc.

TL;DR Can't salvage any parts of the old pc due to circumstances.

Can you at least get a Windows license from MSDNAA / Dreamspark through your school?

Ah makes sense, well will see what we can do. I'll amend a build to this post shortly.

Forgot to amend it to this post and did it as another post, its on the next page.
