Best SSD from this website?

I'm looking at getting a new ~240g SSD but my range is limited to this website: https://www.ple.com.au/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=243

What is the best SSD to choose from here. I hear Samsung 830s are good but this website only stocks 840s and I've seen a few mixed reviews on them.

If you desire a price conscious decision:

Crucial M4
OCZ Vertex 4 (don't let anyone tell you OCZ sucks, SandForce days are over for most vendors)

If you desire a "Balls to the wall speed" decision:

OCZ Vector
Samsung 840 Pro

I think it's very safe to say that from the price conscious decision bit most people would likely choose the Vertex 4 due to 5 year warrantee and now a proven reliablity with their new controllers, though others prefer longer rep over what is possibly a drive that is superior in every way.

From the "Balls to the wall" category, it's a toss up, both of them are in a league untouched by others, and i would say is simply a matter of preference.
However... as far as Firmware updates and optimizations go though, i've seen OCZ extending far more into that then Samsung ever did.

To be truthful, none of them will dissappoint, if you're not like me but actually think a bit of price concerns, it'd have to be the Vertex 4 IMO.
If you are like me however.. i'd likely pick the fastest SoB in the field and not ever look back, regardless of value.

Normally i'd recommend Intel aswell but they are generally too expensive for their sizes and slower, i don't see a valid reason to go Intel from your choices at this point.

Sorry to sort of hi-jack this thread, but I'm also in need of an SSD. I've recently got a 60gb SSD (OCZ Vertex 3), but it isn't big enough to launch WoW and Windows Vista (I know, I know) on - there was sub-5GB left, which when you download new programs gets annoying with a lot of them going straight to your main drive. So I was looking for something a bit bigger. My friend got a 120gb one for about the same price as I got my 60gb one for (~£60). Can anyone recommend one which will happily play WoW and launch windows, with extra space, for around £100? Would love at least 120gb too.

P.S. When I did have Windows and WoW on the SSD, it was awesome. Nothing wrong with the product at all, it just wasn't big enough for my needs.

Price conscious SSDs:
Crucial M4
Plextor M5S
Corsair Neutron
OCZ Vertex 4

Balls-to-the-Wall SSDs:
Plextor M5P
Corsair Neutron GTX
OCZ Vector


Any of these will do you perfectly fine, however if warrantee is an important thing for you then you should know that from the price conscious SSDs only the Vertex 4 gives 5 years of it the rest are 3 years, of the "Balls-to-the-Wall" category all 3 give 5 year warrantees.

If your looking for Price and performance go with the Vertex 4 it's faster then the M4 as I have tested both real world.

If you are looking for the best quality your not going to get much better then the Intel 520 but it cost a little more then the Vertex 4.

Actually of all the SSDs, i would not have picked the 520 to make your example, it would not even be close to the best quality.
For that it'd have to have been any Intel SSD not using the SandForce controller.

I am partial to crucials m4's. I tend to stay away from anything sandforce just because I still don't trust it. Also heard samsungs are pretty nice.

Posted directly after it's release, i know i'm well familliar with it.
But the problems have not been solved, the 520s also cause BSoDs, but very infrequently since OCZ identified the issue and passed it to SandForce with help of AnandTech.

They are just like any other, also the garbage collection and TRIM routines are still base SandForce firmware, if they made those algorythms to Intel standards it might've been different but unfortunately they aren't, once the drive is filled even TRIM cannot recover it's performance, which is deadly.

They are really like any other SandForce based drive, just with an Intel tag because they cherry pick their NAND.

Don't get me wrong, SandForce drives can still deliver their performance, no doubts, but with the releases of controllers out now they are simply obsolete.
