also I would like to overclock it the best I can as well I was looking at this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CvSP

but when I click the thing it says to me. Compatibility Notes

ASRock Z77 Pro4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard has an onboard USB 3.0 header, but the BitFenix Outlaw ATX Mid Tower Case does not have front panel USB 3.0 ports.

and Im assuming that is an issue.

It's not. It just means that you won't get 3.0 speed on the front panels, only 2.0. However... I can't think of any situation where you'd be plugging in a 3.0 device that would matter. If you have a 3.0 external, you'd have it plugged in back anyway, out of the way.

Let me reassure you, there's nothing wrong with that build.

okay can this system be overclocked with the power supply provided and you install your os and wow on ssd and everything else on normal right?

  7. #27
Yes, it will allow for overclocking. Although the Pro4 is not the greatest overclocker, you can still achieve a decent overclock on it.
Also, I missed your SSD choice. While the Samsung 840 is better then no SSD, it's not the best SSD out there. I recommend spending a little more and picking up a samsung 830.

You'll still be in your budget. Rather going in detail, I'll just say that for the most part we recommend an 830 or 840 pro. Not the 840 standard.

If you wanted a motherboard that is a bit more overclock friendly, you can swap it out for an ASRock Z77 Extreme4.

Between that and a change in SSD, you'd still be under your 1,200 budget.

I guess I'm the only person whose opinion differs. While the 830 and 840 Pro are better... They are, in real world use, indistinguishable from eachother, other than price. Certainly if you can get an 830 for the same or within about $10, do it. But they're usually out of stock, or more expensive.

As far as overclocking goes, I'm under the impression that an i5-3570K overclocked to 4.5ghz (usually about the normal without tweaking voltages and getting high end coolers) will never break 100w, where you are currently basing the system off 77w. Keep in mind, your system will also rarely be at 100% load.. so even if the system says it uses "370w" and you have a "500w" PSU of good quality.. chances are, even when gaming, you probably won't break 320w, let alone 370w, or 450w (Which is the '20% overhead limit' I prefer on power supplies)

Aside from no hard drive at all and not being a fan of the HAF series cases yea it will work.

That build Chaz linked it pretty much exactly what i'm ordering at the end of the month (just I get stung an extra 200 in shipping being in australia [Nearest decent parts retailer is in melbourne some 3000km's away]), only differences are at the moment i've cheaped out a bit on the mobo because I wasn't intending to overclock hard but I'll probably end up dropping an extreme 4 in and pushing it for what I can.

ok here it is after removing the ssd and changing the case since the other was out of stock as well as the mobo: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/COsD

Maybe I just lucked out or something, but I see people dropping extra money on boards for overclocking. I got pretty much nearly the cheapest Z77 board there is (MSI Z77A-G41) and it overclocks like a champ with no work at all. Literally "click x44 multiplier, reboot"

I think I'm in the minority here, but I feel like a lot of people push more expensive boards like the Extreme 4 without good cause. They're great boards... But everyone is on a budget. I cannot find a single thing a $130 board has over an $80 one (unless its something stupid specific like must have 6x USB 3.0)

I'm honestly not a huge fan of Toshiba drives, simply because I stick to almost strictly WD. However you can't find many 2TB WD drives without spending $160 on a Black drive, or getting a 5400rpm Green... which I wouldn't recommend for an OS drive. I don't even think there's a 2TB Blue.

I think the reason people pay a bit more for the motherboards is the same argument as 3930k vs 3930x the more you spend the more cherry picked the part is generally and guaranteed to perform (Not to say 7/10 times the cheaper part won't be able to get great performance anyway).

As to Toshiba drives I can't speak for their 3.5" drives but their 2.5" drives can take some abuse here is some info on my old drive that is currently failing after 3 nearly 4 years of abuse (I do mean abuse its worked at up to 82c at times and been dropped along with the laptop more times than I can count though i'm still personally a WD fan myself).

As to changing the case there is absolutely nothing wrong with the haf I just personally don't like them and the stock fans they come with are crap (but then again almost all cheap cases have stock fans that are crap its just something you accept when you aren't spending money on the case, [Lets face it if you can get a case that fits your needs for $50 and spend another $30 on decent fans its better than spending $120 on a case that has unnecessary frills and only slightly better fans (that still relative to decent after market fans are average at best)]).

p.s. Yes I tend to over nest things with brackets.

Get the gpu from Newegg and spend the extra 10 bucks.
