at the start of cata i would says WotLK and that would be true since the release was awesome, however ones we ended up in 4.3 Dragon Soul. it was pretty clear cataclysm as a whole was worse then WotLK

Cataclysm, terrible raids bar Ragnaros and T11 with little to do outside of it with PvP having some of the worst balance issues seen thus far ( Which MoP managed to overtake somehow ), still have nightmares from going up against legendary RLS as a healer.
glad to see the majority is voting cataclysm.
Cata was so god dam awful. The design, the fact they poured everything into revamping the old world that the max level experience was lacking any sense of enjoyment. The piss poor hiccups that made in the lore. The reusing of old content. The overall design. The lackluster presence of deathwing. What they did to Thrall and his character progression.
The only saving grace in cata was the transmog, and some of the instances in the final tier.
I would personally have to say that 3.3.0+ has been where a few things have gone down hill for me. I started during 2.3. The only part of 3.3 that has killed the game for me is the LFD. It was great at the time because most everyone out-geared everything, but when the new instances for Cataclysm were introduced the flaw of the LFD was shown. The difficulty of the game has suffered and in-turn the skill level of the average player and the sense and attitude of the community has gone way down. IMO pre15% nerf ICC will be the last bastion of true raiding.
I'm a casual player so Cata was really bad for me personally. I didn't get into a good raiding guild so I did zero raiding and I got bored with the heroics pretty fast, I didn't even finish all of them. After getting my arena weapon I quit playing. I came back with a 10 day trial in MoP with no plans at all to continue playing, I bought the expansion a day later. MoP is really nice, I love the factions and the raids are also very nice. The 5.1 questline is also very awesome, I haven't finished it yet though. I really like lore patches such as 5.1 and probably a 5.3 patch as well.
as opposed to the whole... immanent doom thing? Revel in the mystery of the land of Pandaria.
Anyways...I think Cata could have been a great expansion if they didn't have a 12 year old trying to think up a story of every single character in the game...Also LFR was stupid and blizzard should feel stupid for making it.
The worst expansion is always the current one. The best expansion is always the previous one.
You can't really rate MoP fairly, good or bad, until the thing is over, we're only like 25% of the way through it, at best.
Anyways, Cata is the clear winner for me, and TBH, I think it started off really well, the launch content was pretty solid, from simple features like reforging to the opening raid content, but the not-crappyness ended about there. Yeah, xmog was a good addition and overall, I thought FL wasn't bad but there just wasn't much of anything to do but level alts or quit playing. ICC was a good raid, despite having it for a year, on the contrary, I thought DS was a piece of shit while in the middle of my first normal clear the first week, and I wasn't wrong, so I stopped playing soon after.

Cata had 2 flaws:
- last content lasted too long
- % nerfs of whole content
WotLK was guilty of the exact same thing and since Cata corrected a lot of WotLK flaws and WotLK corrected a lot of TBC flaws, and TBC corrected a lot of Vanilla flaws, even counting in 4.3 Cata was still better than anything before.

Why you think the Net was born? Porn! Porn! Porn!
Cataclysm was poorly planned, and it showed even worse than some of the planning mistakes in Wrath (which were more gear-scaling related).
The revamped 1-60 levelling was rather nice, but it came at the expense of 80-84 levelling content and 85 max-level content. T11 was pretty solid (and a surprisingly smooth difficulty curve -- the big issue was travel time between raids, but that did give you a change of scenery), but T13 was a bit of a mess of rehashed models and locales. About half of the T13 fights weren't too bad mechanically (the first four, really -- Madness was a kinda cool fight, but just not as an end boss and not for 15 minutes straight), but it lasted way too long with way too little content and a very underwhelming finish.
I am a bit concerned that the supposed Orgrimmar raid might go part of the way Dragon Soul did -- rehashed models and locales to be able to invest more time in the artwork for the next expansion. But with any luck they'll at least get their timing better, and have the next expansion ready to go 6-8 months after the last raid release.
In rank order, from most enjoyable to least enjoyable. Here's a few comments by the side as well to interest anyone that might disagree.
Wotlk - No it wasn't easy, you were just too mediocre to do anything before the nerfs.
MoP - Dislike the theme of the expansion, but the game remains enjoyable and is a huge improvement on what it was.
Tbc - Brilliant but lacking a certain something.
Cata - Everything was fine until I got to 85.
Vanilla - Nostalgia corrupts the minds of many.
For me from best to worst:
Vanilla/WotLK/TBC/MoP/Cata
And I actually knew and liked Deathwing a lot, it's a shame they ruined this awesome character.
If Cataclysm had the Abyssal Maw raid with Neptulon and the Deathwing raid was done a little better than it could've been better than MoP imo.
But as it stands, Cataclysm just lacks in content. MoP doesn't look a whole lot better though.
MoP - the worst leveling experience i had in WoW by far. Dont like the theme, music is quite bad compared to other music found in WoW. Raiding is meh and the pvp balance is horibble
I share your feelings. The final raid being in Orgrimmar is troubling. Although it is inevitable, I really hope Blizz don't decide to throw in five extra bosses all who we've never even heard of before. All who will claim to have been Garroshs most trusted lieutenants. Or they'll pull out some kind of Gamon trick. Oh I love that dried out, over-squeezed flannel. They'll probably say once you beat Garrosh on heroic you can face him. Blizz are getting more and more careless with where they add humour.
I know for one the panderan language is something of a disgrace.
Cata - Felt like there was nothing at all to do outside of raiding/pvp. Vanilla/bc wasn't much better but it was fresh and while class balance might've been all over the place most specs had a specific role to fill. I can understand people wanting all specs to do similar dps but i miss the days of buffbots and such, i'm probably one of the few shadow priests that actually enjoyed being a mana battery
Until now Mop.
Less and less raiders....
