Contrary to popular belief, North Korea is neither stupid nor insane. They are just afraid of the prospect of being invaded by the US and whoever would join them. They think, and rightfully so, that if they have a nuclear weapon, other countries would not be so keen to invade. They know full well that they would be wiped off the face of the planet if they ever launched the thing.

We currently have several Aegis Guided Missile Destroyers in the region that would prevent any missile launch from North Korea even getting 50 miles off the coast so absolutely ZERO concern even if they had a delivery system which they are several years away from developing...sleep tight

Even if they DO get one or two off we built a pretty high level missile defense system during the cold war and pretty sure it;s only gotten bigger sense. The North Koreans have yet to make a nuke as powerful as the ones dropped on Japan. The ones tested are the size of the first ones built by the US during the 2nd World War. Meaning if they launched one at Seoul then a 2 square mile area would be destroyed Yes lots of people would die, and China, the USA, and South Korea would flatten and pave over North Korea. Already China has said they are pissed off at North Korea for pushing this, and China wants North Korea to change like they did. ie become a Capitalistic Socialistic Nation that caters to western greed. I would not be surprised if China cuts North Korea off of all aid.

What makes you think that any nation would care about South Korea, even if North Korea will start to wipe their cities? People care about themselves, especially in presence of nuclear danger, so it's highly unlikely that anyone would attack North Korea for real. It's better for South Korea to make their own nuclear weapon to keep balance.
