    Russian Bombers in American airspace

So this is a bit of strange news. Two Russian Tu-95 bombers flew over the US territory of Guam on Tuesday. These bombers were both armed with nuclear weapons. They were intercepted by American F-15s and chased out of our airspace, but a lot of things don't add up here for me.

First of all, here is the location of Guam.

Now it's hard for me to believe that a couple of bombers just accidentally made their way from Russia to the south pacific. On top of that, they actually circled the island, rather than just making a pass. The Russians have yet to comment on the incident. So... what the hell? What was the reason behind this? I can't even come up with a sinister motive for this... I mean, if you're going to go bully America, why Guam? Most Americans don't even realize we own the damn thing!

Anybody want to make a guess on what happened here? Because frankly I'm baffled.

Since I'm sure people will be frothing at the mouth to say "You cited X news source! This event didn't even happen!", here's a shitload of pages to make everyone happy.

Russians like to send planes into European Airspace every once in a while to force us to escort them away. They just like showing off I guess. Dunno about those nukes though. Maybe there are some new spider species on Guam.

Russia & China are both known to be allies of North Korea, albeit slightly secretive. This was probably a random show of strength, to deter the United States from acting hastily about North Korea, as it clearly demonstrates Russia is capable of putting Nuclear Weapons in U.S. Air Space all over the world.

    But, who knows?!

Does it demonstrate that, though? We don't know what the USAF knew about this before it happened. Maybe they could've intercepted the planes over someone else's airspace and started an international incident, but instead they waited for Russia to turn into the bad guy so that we don't have to listen to "WORLD POLICE AMERICA" all year.

Planes and ships at sea will routinely scope out other planes and ships just to test them and get a little intel. They were probably carrying nukes because they always carry them in case of nuclear war.

They do indeed...i seem to recall one such incident some years back in the UK.

As for the nukes...they head about this http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...m-2030587.html

They like to pop in to Alaska every now and then to "say hi", but Alaska is literally right next door for them. Guam? That took a bit of effort.

i thought i read that they just got near American air space but never actually entered it, and that the planes were only capable of carrying nuclear explosives, not that they necessarily had them on board.

Americans shouldn't complain. The USA flies over other countries all the time. Maybe not with nukes, but they are armed with advanced weaponry.

From one of your own sources...

"the Russian Bear bombers remained in international airspace"
"it’s impossible to determine whether the Russian bombers carried any nuclear weapons"
"it’s highly unusual but not unprecedented"

The only reason I could come up with is to spy on Anderson AFB. Don't ask me why they brought nukes, though.

A lot of things happen in diplomatic channels that never come to light, makes no sense to us but it might have made sense to specific people.
As long nothing blows out of proportion...

    Still curious though

Really?? Its FRIKIN GUAM!!! No idea what it means but if its a show of aggression I dont think Guam is the first place they would attack to prompt a war. BTW I opened the Fox News link and I was suprised they didnt call Russian the Soviet Union, thinking its still the cold war.

So many brainwashed ignorant Americans in this thread.
Hasn't even possibly occurred to any of you that it just might of been a training flight?

You know.. what the Americans like to do to all the time across the globe?

Rather the US than the Russians. At least the US isn't a borderline totalitarian country with a leader that has some very questionable motives at best.

Oh snap. So the real "news" is that Russian bombers flew in international airspace. My gods, this must be the end of the world as we know it.

Meh, Russian planes tend to poke around the airspace of other countries every once in a while. I'm pretty sure other countries do that too.

As if the United States has any room to complain about stuff like this.

I rather the Russians than the yanks, because as you know yanks like to start wars out of the blue and then decide to drop nukes on people.

Infracted: Please refrain from making statements that don't add anything constructive to the discussion and can only end in the derailment of the thread.
