Best amd processor for $130

Im narrowing down my parts. Have some of them on me, some in the mail and Im stuck on my cpu,motherboard and video card. Im looking to spend up to $130 for an amd cpu. Im not sure if I should get the Phenom quad or the Zambezi 6 core (or any others that I didnt consider).

Are you totally set on AMD? If you got an i5-3350P, you'd have a better CPU than any of the AMD's, for pretty much the same price.

Or go with an i3, which is as good as the AMDs.. for cheaper, and have an upgrade path for an i5-3570K

Ordered after I noticed he replyed. I doubt Ill stress my fx that much to warrent the price difference. Its not a brand pref as Im using a i7 930 right now.

Your i7-930 with a minor OC would outperform a fx-6300 in games. Why are you spending so much money on almost no upgrade?

Push that 930 to 3.6-3.8GHz and it will stomp all over the 6300.

On another note... if you no longer want your i7 930, I'll take it off your hands to replace my C0 920 that's basically maxed out at 3.8GHz. I live in Severn. :3

Its in a prebuilt and cant be oc and it is being sold to my brother, my whole set up.

I guess that's that, then. Unfortunately, you'll have to get another motherboard and cpu -again- next time you upgrade. Which is what I was trying to help avoid. Oh well.

Its fine, I forgot to comeback and check here before I bought everything. Im happy with it overall though. Im sure it will be fine to awhile and when the time come to buy again Ill probably have more to spend.

The AMD 6300 are not bad CPUs at all. Infact certainly better and cheaper than the upgrade path of the i3 3220 build. Remember you can overclock the AMD 6300 and it will definitely beat the i3 3220. Also the upgrade path of the AMD build (I need confirmation on this) isn't too shabby either. He could upgrade to one of AMD's newer Steamroller CPUs in 2014 once they arrive. For gaming the AMD 8350 is a fine CPU, I would imagine an update on Vishera with Steamroller would be an ever finer choice, especially if Steamroller uses the AM3+ platform. That's also a fine motherboard you've chosen. Overall not a bad buy at all and one I would certainly be happy with for gaming.

The upgrade path of AMD (If they use AM3+ for the next CPU's aswell) looks at the moment better than intel tbh. 1155 is pretty much dead within a year, only usefull thing would be to buy a secondhand i5 for instance.

As for the 6300, if you can overclock it to 4,5 - 5 GHz you got something that can beat the i3 and is just below some i5s

I think people put too much importance on upgrade paths, get the best you can right now and worry about the future when what you have isn't enough any more.
It is really hard to predict how things will change in a few years and even if you buy a middle of the pack CPU now it should last you a few years, by then there is no guarantee that anything you buy now will be compatible.

I would agree with some of the points you've raised. I'm certainly in the camp of 'buy the best I can afford now' rather than thinking about upgrading. I think in terms of upgrades the most sensible and cheapest ones are always storage based ones which are RAM and HDD.
