# Thread: RPPM Trinkets proc rates and uptime

1. ## RPPM Trinkets proc rates and uptime

Take this as an example
Bad Juju – 0.50 RealPPM on landing harmful abilities and spells, and melee/ranged abilities and swings. No ICD.
assuming 20% haste
rppm = 0.5*1.2 = 0.6
proc duration = 20s
uptime = ~20%

I'm fairly certain this is the correct way to calculate it as i've found several sources with similar uptime

Code:
```This person calculated for rogue at 24.4% uptime (20% haste+ snd), didn't show calculations
http://elitistjerks.com/f78/t131786-...9/#post2253801
similar DK trinkets (25% uptime)
http://elitistjerks.com/f72/t131138-...3/#post2253823
Monk (~20% uptime)
http://elitistjerks.com/f99/t131848-...5/#post2254038
Hunter
Using the blue post formula,
For example, if you have 22% Haste, it was 1.4sec since the last chance to proc, and you’ve got Windsong, then the chance to proc is 2(ppm) * 1.22(haste) * 1.4(time since last chance) / 60 (sec per min) = 5.693%.
ppm = 0.5
haste = 20% (arbitrary value for calculation purpose)
time since last proc = 1
proc % = ppm * haste * (time since last proc) = 0.5 *1.2 * 1 /60 = 0.01 = 1%
At 2s after first proc, proc % would become 0.5 *1.2 * 2 /60 =2%
so at 10s proc % = 10%, EACH swing/spell theoretically has 10% chance to proc, which means, its highly likely to have a 100% uptime on this trinket, which of course is wrong, the trinket would be way too OP if so.
My question is, did i misinterpret the blue post formula? What does that resulted proc % really mean?
SimC puts it at ~31-32% uptime in T15H BiS gear. It's also hugely spec dependent (based on how much haste/attack speed your spec has). Here's a feral sim, for comparison:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1086121/simc...360990151.html
(~18-19% uptime)
Basically, enhancement comes out ahead with these trinkets (and the meta) compared to most other melee specs. The only other spec that I think has more baked in attack speed is combat rogues (slice and dice = 40% + haste rating stacking), which is higher than our average (15% from flurry + 10% from AS), but we can also burst higher than that (50% from unleash wind), and flurry's +50% haste rating will also tip the scales in our favor as we start stacking more and more of the stat come next tier.
This is probably part of the reason why the latest balance pass included buffs to several other melee specs + no change for enhancement.
3. Bad Juju seems seriously bugged. I've gone through 10 mins on bosses without it even proccing once.
this is extremelly un-probable (with 0,6 rppm, out of 1000 fight of 10min, it should happen only 1-2time that you won't have any proc, and 1.2% chance to have only 1 proc of the whole fight). However if you consider 5min fight you have ~4.3% of chance of not seeing a single proc of the fight, and ~15% chance of not seeing a proc on a 3mn fight. That's intended.
5. I wrote a pretty thorough analysis of the RPPM system in the warlocks forum, if you're looking for information or simply curious about it, you may find hat you're looking for : http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...gn-proposition
6. Duplicate question that I just posted, in another thread, but as it pertains to enhancement shaman:
- Does the 10% melee haste buff, from the ancestral swiftness talent, affect RPPM, or is it only "true" haste that affects RPPM?
Nevermind. I was actually able to find the answer, with a Google search:
7. actually no, it has changed recently, see :
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/to...?page=109#2169
We changed RealPPM to use your true melee haste or spell haste (whichever is higher) to scale the proc rate instead of attack speed or casting speed. The difference is that things that buff your attack speed (such as the raid buff or Slice and Dice) do not increase the frequency of RPPM procs. True haste boosts, such as Bloodlust or haste rating on gear will improve proc rate. We felt this change was necessary to balance proc rates among different specs.
So no, trinket do NOT scale with AS
edit : my bad, for some random reason I always though AS was cast speed and attack speed, I just re-read the tooltip and indeed realPPM trinket should scale with AS, so it should indeed scale.
As far as we know, AS gives melee and spell haste, not attack or casting speed, so it should scale RPPM rates.
9. The wording also suggests it will scale with flurry's additional haste from gear.
going to make thoery crafting a tad more complicated...
11. Flurry's 50% additional haste is haste rating, so it should affect real PPM...whereas it's 15% attack speed increase won't. EM/AS both give haste so they should affect it, same as BL/hero.
Yep. The only other modifier we have (unleash wind) is attack speed and won't affect rppm.
