Lorewise orcs are far stronger than humans, much more so than game mechanics would suggest, but Blizz has been trying to downplay that since WC3 since it would upset the playerbase if it showed three grunts for every footman and made horde players have to kill twice as many mobs in quests, or had horde players flat out stronger than nonmagic members of other races.

the average orc is stronger than the average human, hell in terms of physical strength im sure garrosh is stronger than Varian who is most likely the extreme end then it comes to the strenght of a human. Not saying Garrosh could beat Varian as they are both skilled warriors but if it were a test of pure brute strenght garrosh takes the cake.

Varian didn't have the ancient's power at that time. He was called Lo'Gosh by orcs simply because his ferocious reminded them of the tale of Lo'Gosh.

Orcs are stronger, but humans tend to be better equip and often fight 'smarter' rather than harder. Look at the cinematic. The human doesn't get his blows in on the orc by overpowering him, but by dodging and being clever. Sure, footman=orc in wc 2 but in WC 3 a grunt will tear a single footman a part, but at the cost of costing more resources for upkeep.

I don't think the races' base stats mean anything lore-wise, they are balanced to prevent some races from being good at everything. Things like the Night Elves having only 17 strength compared to the Humans' 20 strength doesn't make sense when the average Night Elf is stronger and taller than the average human.

To make game mechanics simpler, yes. As far as lore goes, no. Orcs are much stronger than humans, not taking powers into consideration.

Orcs have a different culture than humans in Warcraft (and most other media) where they all are trained to fight at a very young age, unlike humans who are only trained to fight in certain circumstances, and only if they want to be. Strength is a part of it, but when judging you have to consider the average farmer or peddler human who doesn't fight as well as the warrior human who you actually see fight the warrior Orc. Orcs have a higher baseline due to their culture as well as physicality.

orcs are supposed to be bigger and stronger, although this has obviously changed in recent years with humans also becoming steroid pumping monsters, basically orcs with pink skin

I'd say orcs are brute force, but lack the wits. While humans have the brains but lack the brute force. A human is swift and on his feet when it comes to thinking. He's agile. Orcs though kind of just run at something over and over till it gives out. Based on movies... it's the swift thinking agile archetype that wins most of the time.
This isn't to say their aren't exceptions.
