    Racial Glyphs

I think it was Ghostcrawler that once pointed out how Racial skills sometimes force more min-maxed players to pick races they don't really like to get that extra oomph and how it might have been better if we didn't have racials at all so we could choose our characters more freely.

I agree with him on part, but I kinda like racials so what if tried to balance this out with Glyphs instead?

Here's a few examples of glyphs I think could be beneficial:

Glyph of Headhunting: Troll's Beastslaying now increases damage against humanoids instead of beasts (This could help trolls in PvP, give them something less than 5% tough!)

Glyph of Crystalform: Dwarven Stoneform give a small boost to spell damage but removes the damage reduction buff (to help caster dwarves)

Glyph of Wrath of the Forsaken: When activated it gives a small boost to your primary stats. Replaces Will of the Forsaken (for the odd undead that doesn't PvP)

In the end min-maxers will still be able to point out which is the best race for every specific role, but we might be able to iron the bumps a little while adding some more much needed customization to the game. What do you guys think? Can you create any more glyphs that might help under-represented races in some specific roles?

I think it might be easier to either just remove racials or give racials that are purely graphic effects and nothing more. Interesting idea though. Definitely out of the box.

Companies don't really think like that, that's tinfoil hat mentality. They know customers are more likely to keep paying for longer if they are more satisfied with the product, for a subscription based game like WoW that means everything.

I don't see how this would reduce the issue at all, if anything it'd increase the disparity between the races (resulting in bigger advantages/disadvantages).

If poorly made yes, there's that risk, which is why I think it would be important to think the glyphs through carefully first. that's why I didn't list any glyphs that might make humans or undeads any better at PvP or trolls and worgen better as PvE rogues. With these glyphs Blizzard could also have another area for number tweaking if race power ever got too out of hand.

"Hmm, Glyph of Headhunting made trolls too good at PvP, let's lower it's effect another percent to balance things..."

I wouldn't mind seeing Racial Glyphs, although you know this is how it's gonna go down:

X Racial Glyph is going to be too powerful. Blizzard is going to be forced to nerf it. People are going to bitch from both sides; those who you used to have the full power of the glyph and those on the receiving end.

Racial glyphs! Let me find an older post of mine, with ideas for (lesser) racial glyphs.

    Ah, here it is.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Purely Aesthetical
Human - Glyph of the Cult - Pales your skin and gives you eye markings, changing your appearance to that of a member of the Cult of the Damned.
Dwarf - Glyph of the Highlands - Replaces your chestpiece with a leather harness and adds blue tattoos to your body, changing your appearance to that of a Wildhammer Dwarf.
Dwarf - Glyph of Ragnaros - Darkens your skin, blackens your (facial) hair and reddens your eyes, changing your appearance to that of a Dark Iron Dwarf.
Dwarf - Glyph of Ulduar - Partially reverts the visual effects of the Curse of Flesh, changing your appearance to that of [an Earthen].
Dwarf - Glyph of High Kings - (WARRIOR ONLY) Your Avatar ability gives you a more steely appearance, and causes your equipped weapons to appear as a giant mace and axe.
Dwarf - Glyph of Inebriation - Being completely wasted on alcoholic beverages now animates you as being stunned. 30% chance every minute to spout random gibberish.
Nightelf - Glyph of Elune - Gives you the Elune's Blessing ability. Slightly illuminates the area around you while having a moon sigil above your head. Lasts 5 minutes, 20 minutes cooldown. (Similar to Tyrande's flavor buff at the end of WoE 5-man)

The gameplay changing ones I'm quite "meeehhhhhhh" about.

The aesthetic ones, though, get fifteen thumbs up from me.

I am not sure if racial glyphs are really a good idea or not, but I hope they will revamp races in general when they release the new models, if not sooner. It is a bit silly when racials on one side are strong enough that many progress oriented guilds feel the need to faction change just because of that.
