Low population states have the total upper hand in both national congressional and presidential elections. Wyoming gets 1 electoral per 200k people, while california gets 1 electoral for every 700k people.
Living in a high population state neuters your power as a voter.
The two party system neuters your value as a voter more than anything. And this was also done for the same reason as senate distribution, so that the largest states did not have total control.
Most of New York State is rural. It's dominated by one city.
I live right outside that city... the people in the upstate areas are taxed to support it. Mostly through MTA taxes... NYC forces the rest of the state to subsidize it, because it can.
I live in the suburbs of NYC to. I hate going upstate. Nothing there.
