Oh noes! I got banned! And now I must go to another forum to whine about it, and then tell people I'm not actually whining about it, because they'll totally believe that guys!!

Exactly... which brings another point: Hypocrisy of the blizzard and MMO forums! (Yes I just had to)
Yes some bans are fails on Blizz's part but a lot of bans I have seen, especially in this thread, I would accept.
But hey, some people just think they're special and they can just curl around the rules and such, aah well.
I sometimes organise operas, like This one
Camilla: You, sir, should unmask.
Stranger: Indeed?
Cassilda: Indeed, it's time. We have all laid aside disguise but you.
Stranger: I wear no mask.
Camilla: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask!
getting offended by a clip of George Fisher (that "butt head singer") taken from a metal fest interview trash talking Alliance in a video game that's all about which side is better and then proceeding to jokingly wish the person who runs the company dies. yeah, totally the same.
i got banned for making an @day thread the day swifty crashed his server just because i mentioned his name
i had other offenses, but that is still pretty absurd
But yeah
If you're over the age of 15 and below the age of 40 and you haven't been banned from the WoW forums yet, you're doing something wrong. Some of us just don't have any appreciation for the concept of being politically correct.
Moral of the Story:
Don't use the World of Warcraft Forums to discuss anything but theorycrafting, helping people who need it, and making useless night elf hugging threads. If you are pursuing anything else, there's a pretty good chance you will be banned.
It is better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for who you are not.

Ever think to consider the fact that GMs get so many tickets for name violations that aren't actually violations so often that sometimes it can be easy to let a legitimate one slip by?

Blizzard isn't hypocritical at all. They consider naming and shaming to be harassment regardless of who did what. Harassing the person harassing you doesn't make it any less of a violation. It isn't necessary because Blizzard doesn't handle in game violations through the forums and only accept complaints about violations through tickets and the new reporting system.
To be blunt, I don't get blizzard's bans.
I have been banned like 3 times now over the silliest of things.
One was over the use of the term "fucked up" in a post about video game level design as in "the player fucked up". Just today, I got banned from some post in which I argued with two other people. I was never insulting or called anyone names, granted I wasn't 100% "nice" (it's an argument for heaven sakes) ... banned for "trolling/spamming".
I keep walking into these bans and I don't know why! I give up.
When did I say ANY of that? That I want anything? Please, show me in my post where I said I was tired of not being heard or getting what I want. Stop talking out of your ass and trolling just to try and start shit. If you wanna do that, head to WoW general with the rest of the trolls.
Oh, Just recognized your name. Xanzul. You're one of the biggest damned trolls on the WoW official forums. Get lost.

Considering the official forums are absolutely filled to the brim of absolutely scathingly critical threads that put Blizzard and Wow into the worst possible light I think you are full of shit. If you were banned it was because you violated forum guidelines not because they were trying to silence you.
It's such a commonly used term. People have said worse in trade chat. It was masked by the forum filter anyway.
Ban over that?
Edit: If you don't want people typing certain words, wouldn't it be a better idea to just "reject" their post stating that it contains "unacceptable language" rather than just mask parts of it then ban the poster?
Programming something like this isn't hard. A lot of forums have such features. Then again, this is Blizzard who can't even get their quote function to work right - sometimes the the name of the person you are quoting doesn't display.

It is profanity. Period. End of story. I don't care how common the phrase is, it is still considered profane not only by Blizzard but society as well. Also the filter doesn't give you carte blanche to curse up a storm.
As far as the forums go there isn't one piece of forum software past or present that doesn't have bugs this site included so I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

So I'm a troll because I respond to those I disagree with and explain why on a DISCUSSION forum? Here is a hint: forums are for discussion and debate. If you want a soapbox where you can say what you want without anyone being able to disagree with you then start a blog. You have yet to counter anything I have posted except to harass and insult me.
Actually I was banned over "subverting the filter" ... the word showed up as gribbish, so ...
Curse up a storm? "fucked up" was used once. ONCE. LOL.
Also Blizzard's Forums is buggier than "normal". I been on the net for over a decade, most forums work fine with the occasional edge case glitch. None I have seen have as obvious a bug as quoting not working right. Since the early days of Blizzard's forums, I always wonder why they don't just buy an off-the-shelf solution, since apparently they can't code a forum if their life depended on it.
Anyway, I have given up. I will from now on only post if I have a question with a "direct" answer, e.g. "This staff or this MH + offhand?" and I will phrase it in the most concise way possible - the longer the post, the greater the danger. "Discussing" things on those forums will sooner or later get you perm-banned. LOL
