    Question about leveling post launch

Im thinking about picking gw2 up again after leaving ffxi for a while. Ive gone back to the harathi hinterlands to continue leveling but there isnt a soul hardly out there.

Im used to doing the chain event there in the top right part of the map with 15-20 people doing it at once, so where does everyone level in the 45ish range? I kind of find it boring to just be leveling by myself out there. Is there any tips you guys have for a better leveling experience?

Cause right now i dont see myself lasting but a few days like this.

just like every other mmo out there, the mid level areas after launch will be very sparse. There isn't one mmo that has solved this.

But for GW2 specifically, Harathi Hinterlands is one of the areas that is the most sparse. Once you level up a bit or at level 40 or so, head on over to Blazeridge, that will have more people there due to the Shatterer being there.

Honestly, you might wanna guest in a different server....maybe it's yours? Cause today I went to Harathi (guildie asked) and it was quite full...

But other than that, refer to Doozer

Yeah, seriously - what server are you on?
That event at the upper right of Harathi has one of the upgraded loot chests and there's always crowds of people there.

Yeah I should have mentioned this in my post. Whenever I visit Harathi (not often mind you), it does have a decent amount of people in that area where the chain event happens. The rest of the area is very sparse, although whenever an event comes up I will almost always see at least a couple of other folks around.

I would say it has more people in that zone than Fields of Ruin does for example.

I would think that it would not be a server issue because im on crystal desert which is classified as a very high pop. And ya i know for most games the mid levels are empty, definately something i took into consideration before i posted.

Maybe im just not showing up at the right times, everytime ive logged on so far the waypoints are all contested in that corner.

The high pop on gw2 servers doesn't mean much. It's by accounts that are on that server. So even if it had 10 players online but 999999999 players offline still would be considered high pop (Unless it changed and I wasn't aware)

The waypoints in that corner are always contested while the events are active. The events cycle quickly there and therefore the wps are usually contested. XD

I'm on guesting cooldown, I'll check it out tomorrow.

Yes, the waypoints being contested usually indicates activity, not inactivity. For what it's worth, after last night's raid I decided to hop on my US account and guest on Crystal Desert; the event chain had already started, and there were over a dozen people by the time we finished off the final boss. Mind you, that was primetime on Saturday in the US, so I'm not sure what it would look like during the regular week.

As a general rule, though, I wouldn't limit myself to just one zone. There are at least two zones for each level range; and while you gain somewhat less XP by going to a lower-level area, it's not THAT much of a loss unless you downlevel a lot and the zone being more active can make up for a lot. Also, seriously investigate guesting if your server's zones tend to be empty. (Mind you, I still see a fair amount of activity on US servers during daytime in Europe, so it shouldn't be all that bad during US primetime.)

Probably cause Hirathi is the most boring zone in the game with nothing but centaurs, unless my memory fails me.

I spent this weekend playing around a bit on a new char for the first time since launch just about.

I wouldn't say there are a lot of people about, but there seem to be enough so that I don't feel like I'm alone in an empty world ^^

People will aim for the more interesting mid-level zones on their alts, so you'll see less people in Hirathi and more people in Sparkfly, as an example.

But due to the daily structure, zone events, and now guild bounties...arenanet has done a great job spreading people out across zones. THe only bottleneck at the moment is high end crafting mats, which means people looking for ancient trees won't find them in lower level zones.

Yeah I definitely see more people in the previously sparse zones since the dailies change.

Malchor's Leap is still dead though. Unfortunate there as it is my favorite of the Orr zones.
