I was a raider and rarely if ever visited those sites (except to see the new items) even up til I quit in early cataclysm, I just did the math and spreadsheets myself. I still go back and play Everquest and want to go back and play FF11 because of the immersion in those games, they changed some things to make it more convenient without turning their game into something else, which is the biggest difference.
You want nostalgia?
I remember having to beg my guildies to take me, a mage, to ZG so we could fish the boss from the river. We had to have our rogue, our only fishing expert, stand there for a few minutes while we defended him from gators. When the boss finally emerged we killed him but another mage stole the book. I don't remember how the hell it happened. I think out RL forgot to change loot system but the bastard took it and either /gquit and or was kicked. But my guild did it again, I believe two weeks later, and I got it. Talk about an exciting moment. And it wasn't the fact that I got the book (which I was proud of using every single time I ran an instance). But it was the fact that my guildies all took time from their playtime to help me get it.
I <3 Gacksmugger (which later turned to) Lucid Dream.
the thing i miss most bout wow is the time when epic gear meant 20 people in a city inspecting you. epic gear being truly epic and hard to get. And now even legendaries arent rare anymore.
I miss when people were helpful and nice.
Class quests
Unhomogenized skills
Epic-ness and expansion (BC, WotLK) of the original World of Warcraft story... I don't like this new lore that's come out (Cataclysm, MoP+) because they're taking really poor paths with it, and I'm pretty sure it's just to not deliver what is expected, oh well, it sure will cost them millions of subscribers. :\
