I leveled my rogue to max at the end of cata (like hit 85 with three weeks left) and told used its be my main in MoP. That didn't happen but I just finally hit 90 and I'm liking it a lot. It's really a fun class all around and I like the idea of rogue, just the concept is pretty awesome.

I'd play one if I were you. I'm on my phone but I think the other option was Mage? I'd pick rogue over Mage any day but all I play / have played is melee.

    Rogue's issues in my eyes:

    - Energy and it's dependence on haste; class feels broken at low gear and OP at high gear
    - Potentials for unintended burst
    - Shifts into passive damage to compensate for above
    - Specialisation uniqueness or lack thereof
    - Combo points dictating the lion's share of your abilities and transferability of this resource to new targets
    - "Flavour" in the form of aesthetics
    - "Flavour" in the form of class design

I mainly PvP, but I do like to PvE a bit if my friends in progressed guilds take me along for a ride, so I've got atleast SOME basis for saying the following:

PvE rogue is very straightforward. Very easy rotation, no big tricks to pull good numbers. And I quite like that, to be honest. Playing my rogue in PvE feels a bit relaxing, from the frantic nature of PvP. It gives me time to look around and hopefully not stand in a pool of huge lava that will kill me. And that I can alt-tab out to read the paper between Mutilates really works for me, actually.

PvP rogue is the most fun I know in WoW, closely followed by resto shaman and disc priest PvP. Lots of buttons to press, with an answer to almost all things that are thrown at you and/or your team. Poisons, Shiv effects, Blinds, Gouges, Deadly Throws, Smoke Bomb, Disarm, Shadow dance with massive damage and Saps out of Blinds and all kinds of small things that make or break a good rogue.

MMO-wise, no. I probably won't touch any other MMO's for the time being. Simply too time-consuming and they never offer you the rewarding "ending" other game-types do. WoW was my first "real" MMO experience, and it gave me my fill of it - I no longer crave it. I only continued playing it for as long as I did because of my guild and the friends I had in it. Raiding with them was fun because of the social aspect, the game itself simply wasn't enjoyable anymore.

Long story short; server was dead, guild had to break up, people split apart (all in good spirits), and I took the opportunity to step down from a game I no longer enjoyed. No drama, no hard decisions, just felt like the right thing to do.

Lol yeah, when I'm I'm in lfr there's usually a few rogues near too, and their top 3 abilities are usually just auto attack and poisons.

I really enjoy rogue in pvp, a really great class with a lot of tools, but I just can't stand them in pve, I've tried raiding on my rogue, just so boring to play In pve

The saving grace for the class in PvP is stealth because of how fun it is.

However i'm not too excited about this whole requierment to have bleeds and slice and dice up on targets. It's frankly really tedious to have to put up slice and dice, rupture and maybe recuperation.

Rogues used to be all control and bursting with finnishers. That was FUN. Using all globals to CC people and to set up bursts. Now it's all like: Do i have SnD up? Ok now i need to rupture. Then we start doing damage and stun then we are out of energy.

The short cooldown on Shadow Dance at least makes SUB fun to play.

I've been playing my rogue since I started playing WoW (which was in BC). They are the most boring class in PvE hands down. Boring in raids, boring in dungeons... I don't even PvE anymore because its so boring. PvP on the other hand is a whole other story, they are very fun in arenas/battlegrounds and also viable.

aww c'mon its just joking. sometimes you need to have fun too.

ontopic: i think every rogue thinks deifferently some who play their rogues since vanille either have quit or still play some who started later play rogues. in my personal opinion rogue mechanics seem so outdated nothing new every expansion just one pvp/pseudo pve skill no new animations nothing. nothing is flashy just very basic hacking and slashing your opponent. think most of us made their opinion clear already some like the playstyle of roges some dont,i think its time for serious rework

I would not commit to main changing to a rogue without first getting to max level and playing it a bit at 90. Only having experience up to level 50 is not enough. Find out what it is like in raids and pvp at max level, and then decide if the rogue is right for you. Otherwise, you might as well be choosing a class at random to be your new main.

I recently main changed from mage to rogue myself. So, I can empathize with the OP's dissatisfaction with the mage class at the moment. However, I was running my rogue in alt raids all last expansion, and can easily say that I am as comfortable playing the rogue as I have ever been with my mage. The rogue just feels more fun to me now, and I feel that I am performing better because of that.

Most rogues I see in PVP are complete shit and easy to kill. Good rogues are OP and can kill you pretty easily. The rotation is horribly boring and dull.

I find that the level of control that I have while playing sub in pvp is completely unmatched by any class. Leveling can be a blast (the world pvps) , but it will also teach you how boring a rogue can be in pve (my pve is pretty much transmog runs, but dem ZG daggers are hawt so what can ya do? ) Also once you gain the skill on a rogue Its almost comical, your enemies go from saying "hahaha lets kill that rogue" to, "holy fuck that side of the bg is no mans land bro don't go,it lives there!!!!..."

You will need to work at it, and gearing a rogue can be very frustrating, probably like gearing a mage was. They however are truly rewarding to master.

Also there is a bit of buff management such as...
As sub not having slice n dice up as a sub rogue can make or break you.
As assassination not having rupture up can make or break you.
Combat is probably the most forgiving and also the most boring.

rogues are very gear-dependet. not only that they don't do good dmg with low gear it's also no fun playing in low gear. it feels slow and mindnumbing. when you get some gear it gets better and better. i personally dont like combat but sub and mutilate are nice to play. however, if you like classes that are GCD-locked, rogue is no class for you.

PVP wise, they are in a pretty good place. I'd like to see the combo building dmg abilities higher but over all for burst its pretty solid. I can't complain. With the adding of the new abilities such as Cloak and dagger, it added some "spice" but overall a rogue is still a rogue and still a very high skill class. IMO of course.
